• FIELD FOR LIBERTY HANDICAP Eleven Carded to Match Strides in Main Attraction of Detroits Fourth of July Program. DETROIT, Mich., July 3.— The forty-one day spring meeting of the Detroit Racing Association ended today and the second session of its long 120-day season gets under way at the Fair Grounds here Wednesday. Eight stakes are carded to be decided during the middle term, which comes to a close August 20 and the first of these, the ,500 added Liberty Handicap, a sprint at six furlongs, tops the well balanced eight-race program that ushers in the summer meeting. Although Detroit lost some of its best stables, due to the owners already having reservations at Arlington and Rockingham Park, some of the leading establishments still remain here. The Liberty Handicap has all indications of providing one of the hardest fought races seen here. Eleven were named this morning and the field is a most representative one. With one exception, B. B. Jones Miss Patience, stakes winner as a two-year-old and successful in her recent start at Arlington Park, the field comprises horses that have been under colors here during the spring meeting. Miss Patience was shipped here for her engagement and as a final trial this morning she gave a great exhibition of her speed when she went a handy three-eighths in :34%. Ladfield, winner of his last two starts here, is assigned the top impost of 114 pounds, two more than C. V. Whitneys Clotho. The latter, which, in winning the Inaugural Handicap, established the track record of 1:10%, has been a real threat in all the handicaps here. Mr. Sponge, yet to show his best form, must carry 113 pounds. With all of the boxes reserved for the holiday program, indications are that a crowd exceeding that of Memorial Day will be on hand for the sport. Post time for the first race is 2:15 p. m. The field for the Liberty Handicap in order of post positions with weights and probable jockeys follow: Prob. PP. Horse. Wt Jockey. 1— tSalaam 108 G. Rose 2— Ladfield 114 S.
