WALL IN HAMILTON ACCIDENT Jockey Thrown in Stretch Drive in Vain Race — Barry Wins in the Final Strides. HAMILTON. Ont, July J.— The York Plate, feature event of the day, witnessed a bad fall while the field was fighting it out in the final drive. Candle Fly, ridden by jockey Nick Wall, in attempting to squeeze through next to the inner rail ran up on the heels of the leader, Bylona, going down and throwing the rider amidst the flying hoofs of the other horses. All passed safely but Diseur, which, though trailing along far in the rear at the time, galloped along to pass right over the prostrate rider. From the stands it appeared as if he had stepped on the boy. Willing hands rushed to his aid, while the official car was soon on the track to carry him back to the emergency hospital on the grounds. There, after a hurried examination, it was decided that he should be rushed on to the local hospital for an X-ray, the doctors fearing that the boy had suffered a fractured collar bone and possibly other injuries. Before the accident took place the fans were wildly cheering the battle Bylona was putting up to stall off the repeated efforts of Barry to wear him down. Bylona, having taken the lead at the start and showing good speed, stood off two attempts Barry made in the run down the back stretch, but Barry was not to be denied, coming gamely under hard pressure to draw away at the end, winning by two and a half lengths, while Bylona had enough left to hold Brandon Prince safe for second.
