James Bird, a Maryland turfman, will act as agent for the L. "Sport" Haymaker sta- 1 ble during the remainder of this meeting. . J. B. Belk, who spent the week-end on his Virginia farm, returned here to saddle his , horse, Axentea, in Tuesdays sixth race. The fans glimpsed another top-notch rider ! Tuesday afternoon when Monte Parke had j the leg up on Mrs. A. Doris Alcorah in the five and a half furlongs of the first race. ■ Parke has been on the grounds since the j opening, but was obliged to serve out a suspension handed down to him at Detroit for rough riding. R. "Chubby" Leonard, the riding sensation . of a few years back, is out bright and early . in the mornings galloping horses, and it would not be surprising if he attempted to . come back during the latter stages of this session. Dave Heisman and William O. Dowd of the New Hampshire Racing Commission, conducted F. J. Hudson, chief inspector of the California Horse Racing Board, on a tour of inspection of the "tote" in operation at Rockingham aPrk. Jockey J. J. McTague suffered a shaking up Tuesday morning when breezing Ambola. The Amberjack filly swerved out at the quarter pole, unseating McTague. He was forced to cancel his engagements for the afternoon. The stewards ordered the further entry of Ambola refused, because of bleeding and bad behavior at the post. •
