1 ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES ft McCarthy, Morrison and Keatings Louisiana Derby winner and an eligible for the Texas Derby, went a handy three-quarters over a good track Wednesday morning in 1:17. E. P. Bafunno arrived from Houston with Morsnuff and Galapan. The pair found quarters at Fair Park, Dallas. W. F. Altman, Arlingtons progressive mayor, with his daughter, Ouida, journey to the Downs Wednesday to complete arrangements for the observance of Arlington Day, Wednesday, April 17, when the Arlington Handicap will top the program. A novel touch will be added to Saturdays program when the owner of the horse winning the Lawrence Gallries Purse will be presented with a large colortype picture of Samuel Riddles great horse Man o War. El Ranchito Polo Club has reserved a table for fifty guests on D.erby Day, when luncheon will be served the visiting Mexican Army poloists. General Avila Camacho and Gen. Jesus Gayme Quinons, the former secretary of war, for the Republic of Mexico, will head the distinguished group. Mrs. A. B. Wharton, Jr., Mrs. C. E. Childers and Mrs. W. T. Waggoner II., will share the hostess duties at the luncheon. The Mexican military leaders will view some of the races on Derby Day from the judges stand as guests of E. Paul and Guy L. Waggoner. Mayor Van Zandt Jarvis, city manager George Fairtrace, chief of police Henry Lewis and lieutenant of police Bob Dysart, who welcomed the Electra visitors in Fort Worth Wednesday morning, also joined the escorting party to the Downs. A group of Chamber of Commerce-officials, including president John Collier, Jr., manager Jack Hott and Gharles Cotten, were included. W. O. Gatton, Magnolia Petroleum Co., was greeter-in-chief for the city of Fort Worth. The third .and final issue of condition books for the Arlington Downs meeting, which comes to a close Saturday, April 20, were distributed among the horsemen Wednesday. The books also carry the complete list of nominations for the third running of the 5,000 added Texas Derby, which tops the closing days program. Apprentice F. Fernandez, one of the leading riders during the Texas spring season, leaves for Churchill Downs immediately after the close of this meeting, where he will report to Keene Daingerfield, Jr. Young Daingerfield has taken a call on the lads services for the Louisville season. Paul Keester, one of the leading American riders, whose apprentice allowance expires next month, is setting a merry pace for the other riders here. The Kentucky boy had ridden twenty winners with the close of the first eleven days of the meeting. Hilton Dabson and Howard Hughes were tied for second honors with seven victories each. Jack Westrope and H. Albrecht, con- tract riders for the Milky Way Farms Stable, were next with five triumphs each. Starter Roy Dickerson added Rayleen, Snobeedo and Dodiodo to his schooling list. Jockey Arthur Craig, who has been confined to his home with a mild attack of influenza, resumed riding Wednesday. For- " mer jockey Guy Mangan is making the lads engagements. C. R. Parker, Amarillo horseman, has one of the largest stables quartered at Fair Park, Dallas. It comprises thirteen head, which includes Britlon, Dorothy Span, Santa Roma, Bright Flower, Stimulaw, Judge Murphy, Frigate Bird, Orel, Bonnie Hughes, Miss Montez, Belle Mystery, Eastko and J. Shelby.
