DAYTON JOCKEY CLUBS BID Accepted for Early Summer Meeting at Ohio Track June 8 to June 29 Dates Requested. DAYTON, Ohio, April 10. The Montgomery County Agricultural Board has accepted the bid of the Dayton Jockey Club for the use of the local Fair Grounds for a nineteen-day early summer meeting. The lease will call for a daily rental of 50. Seven other interests had in bids. Judge Roland W. Baggott, his son Horace Baggott, and John Egan, all of this city, are the principal officers of the Dayton Jockey Club. George E. Smith of Cleveland, owner of Cranwood Park, will be engaged as general manager. It was also announced that William Dangman of Columbus will be presiding steward, and that Albert Melchor of Cincinnati will be in complete charge of the mutuel department. "Judge Baggott served on the bench in probate and common pleas courts here for twenty years. He has been president of the Dayton Jockey Club since its origin in 1933. John Egan, who is vice-president and treasurer, has been practicing at the bar for almost forty years, and the younger Baggott is another of the Gem Citys leading barristers. The last named is secretary of the Jockey Club. Dates from June 8 to June 29, inclusive, will be asked in the clubs application to the state racing commission. Other racing officials selected include B. J. Held of Columbus as racing secretary; H. B. Khol, Columbus, clerk of scales, and E. W. Stribling, Columbus, paddock judge and timer. The unsuccessful bidders were R. S. Eddy, Jr., New Orleans; D. C. Burnett, Aurora, 111.; E. F. Carruthers, Chicago; Richard C. Jones, Chicago; a Columbus, Ohio, group headed by A. D. Miller, H. D. Shepard and A. F. Miller; and two other local groups, known as the Dayton Racing Association and the Gem City Jockey Club.
