DETROIT STAKES ARRAY Ten Feature Events Are Headed by Detroit Derby and Challenge Cup. Each of These Races Has 5,000 Added Other Valuable Fixtures and Overnight Handicaps. i ARLINGTON, Texas, April 10 Stake blanks for the spring meeting of the Detroit Racing Association, which commences Thursday, May 23, were received here today. Ten stakes, topped by the second running of the 5,000 added Detroit Derby, and the 5,000 added Detroit Challenge Cup, will be offered during the thirty-nine days of racing which will close Saturday, July 6. The stakes offered are the Wolverine Handicap, Colonel Alger Memorial Handicap, Saint Clair Stakes, Belle Isle Handicap, Woodward Stakes, Pontchartrain Handicap, Liberty Handicap, and the Detroit Juvenile Stakes. The Ponchartrain Handicap will be run the Saturday preceding the Detroit Challenge Cup, and it should serve as a preparation for the latter event. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, who again will serve as director of racing at Detroit, stated today that many of the leading stables now campaigning at Arlington Downs had made stall reservations for the Detroit season. He and several members of the staff here who will serve with him during the Motor City season, are receiving nominations for the Derby. The nominations close Monday, May 13, with the exception of the Challenge Cup nominations, which close twelve days before its running.
