j t LOUISVILLE, TURF NOTES . and Following- a short rest, Ladysman, star of the William R. Coe stable at the Downs and runrier-up to Azucar in the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap, is ready to swing back into training. Mrs. Hollis N. Ryder, owner of the Kentucky Derby nominee, Blackbirder, has arrived from her home in Syracuse and will remain for the season. Blackbirder, shipped here from Florida, first gained prominence when he won the Juveniue Handicap at Rockingham Park last July. He was sired by Bostonian. Other large stables expected to head this way immediately after the close of the meeting at Arlington Downs are those of T. C. Worden, Mrs. F. C. Mars Milky Way Farm Stable, C. A. Marone and Charles Bacha-rach Southland Stable. Barbara A , J. L. Carricks juvenile daughter of Jock and a candidate for the Bashford Manor Stakes, is at the Downs. Keene Daingerfield reported the death of the two-year-old Big Thirst. He was a son of Big Blaze and died of pneumonia, contracted while in shipment here from Lexington. Others in the Daingerfield stable are the older Morprim, Dark Hazard, Mr. President and Dusky Dark and the two-year-olds, Sir Jim, James, a brown colt by St. James Easter Fashion; Meriweather, bay colt, by Lee O. Cotner Wind Blown; Court, bay gelding, by St. James Rose Pompon; Miss Patriot, gray filly, by American Flag Girl of My Heart; Molly, bay filly, by Lee O. Cotner Sin; Belleek, bay filly, by Stimulus-Plaid; Vanesas, bay filly, by Morvich Gin-ette; Dulcimer, chestnut filly, by Morvich Cadilla, and Last Laughter, bay filly, by Misstep Innocence. Jockey Bob Finnerty arrived from his home in New Orleans and will free lance here. Speedy Skippy, having been sent to Rook-wood Farm, where he will be turned out, J. Englehart will have only Rustic Lassie and Mary Carmen, two-year-olds, for racing here. They are at Douglas Park. Rex Cooper, with the three-year-old El Bandido, which won several races during the winter, is another recent arrival at the Beechmount course. Races for two-year-olds during the first seven days of the coming Churchill Downs meeting will be at four and one-half furlongs. The distance of the Bashford Manor Stakes, principal race of the meeting for horses of that age and to e renewed on Saturday, May, 12, will be at five furlongs. C. R. Anderson has arrived at Douglas Park with the several head he raced at Hot Springs and other winter points. He moved his racers into stalls vacated by Russ McCoy, who shipped four to Chicago. During his long connection with the turf, Anderson has missed few spring meetings here. As trainer H. J. Thompson has signified intentions of bringing more of the Edward R. Bradley horses here from the farm than in several years, the Downs management has obtained the private stable, constructed several years ago by C. E. Durnell on property adjoining the track, as the local haven of the wearers of the popular white and green. Thompson requested stalls for "at least twenty." Other stables due from Lexington and farms in the Blue Grass area include those of J. C. Milam, J. N. Camden, Charles T. Fisher, C. B. Shaffer, E. D. Shaffer. Brownell Combs, Warren Wright, Mose Lowenstein, A. C. Detwiler, C. W Moore, J. E. Mason, L. K. Rogers and A. Lee Darnaby, while those of J. S. Hawkins, Gus Simonetti and several others are coming from Latonia. Barring mishap, A. L. Fergusons four-year-old Vitamin B. promises to be in fine form for his engagement in the Clark Handicap on the opening day of the meeting. He worked three-quarters over a slow track in 1:17, and seemed to want more. If they can agree on terms, W. J. Hirsch may take over William E. Schmidts Superior Stable string of eight. Hirsch has been looking after the horses since William Irvine left for the East to assume charge of J. U. Grattbns stable in Maryland: Hirsch is a son of Max Hirsch and brother of Mary. Hirsch, Americas first woman to be licensed as a trainer. Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Burton were down from Covington over the week-end. Burton serves in the racing department here, Latonia and other tracks. He returns next week to assume spring duties at the local course. For the same patrons, trainer Alec B. Gordon also has fourteen others at the local track. They are the older Top Dog, Gay Dog, Nectarine, Joybird, Tophorn and Watersplash and the juveniles, Bulwark, Floradora, Masterpiece, Cold Stream, Noble Star, Swift Rose, Harmonessa and Albania.
