ARLINGTON", Texas, April 15. Roman Soldier, Sachsenmaicr and Reuters favorite for the 5,000 added Texas Derby, which will have its third running next Saturday, demonstrated that he is ready for the nine-furlong journey when he went the Derby distance in 1:52, handily, last Saturday. Under the handling of Lester Balaski, who will direct the son of Cohort in the rich feature, and accompanied by Keep Out during the last mile, the colt turned in the most splendid trial of six eligibles that tested the fast racing strip this morning. He commenced his task at the eighth post and, well rated, reeled the quarter in :24, the half mile in :49, the three-quarters in 1:14, and the mile in 1:39. Taking a running start at the stand, Keep Out went out to show the way, but the Cohort colt picked him up steadily and he was well before his older stablemate at the end. Roman Soldier clipped off the quarter in fairly even time.. He went to the seven-eighths post in :2i, the next quarter in :24, the third quarter in :25, the fourth in the same time, and the final furlong in :13. Balaski only put him to good hand urging, and the colt was never fully extended. Trainer Phil Reuter stated he came out of the work in tip top style and appeared none the worse from it. Eddie J., which races under the Odessa Farm colors of W. E. Irving, also was sent the nine furlongs, and he, too, began his task at the furlong post. He was in hand at the end in 1:55, after covering the quarter in :24, the half mile in :49, the three-quarters in 1:17, and the mile in 1:43. Wise Player, which will sport the silks of Miss A. Morgan, was sent a mile in 1:41, handily. The "son of Strolling Player was timed the quarter in :25, the half mile in :50, and the three-quarters in 1:15. P. A. Shaws Gov. Sholtz, one of the doubtful starters, was limited to seven-eighths, and Dark Woman and Hasty Glance breezed five furlongs each. Gov.
