1 ARLINGTON DOWNS NOTES T. F. Swords turned his horses over to J. NeeTr and they were shipped to Havre de Grace Sunday night. Joe Roberts, who formerly handled the Swords charges, is vanning his horses to Dallas for the Fair Park season. George Leeds is vanning several of the Jake Freedman horses to Fair Park for that meeting and the others will remain at Arlington Downs until near the opening of the New England season. Apprentice F. Fernandez received word from H. Torriente, his contract employer, that he was expected to report to him at the close of the Churchill Downs season. Fernandez will be with the Keene Dainger-field stable for the Louisville meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Gazin are visitors from Houston. They expect to remain for the running of the Texas Derby. Nominations for the ,000 added Arlington Handicap closed Monday. The race, open for three-year-olds, will be decided at six furlongs. Despite the mediocrity of the Louisiana Derby field, McCarthy showed in his last effort here that he must be reckoned with. Although defeated by Roman Soldier, he was much the best of the others, and trainer Tom Keating believes if the colt had not beenused up in forcing the pace throughout he would have been closer to Roman Soldier at the end of the mile and a sixteenth. Eddie J., Wise Player and Back Fence, the latter one of the two supplementary nominees, have their admirers, the trio having performed very well under colors here. Those listed as doubtful starters are: Dark Woman, Bill Donoghue, Hopr. Eternal, Bul-strode and Hasty Glance. Hope Eternal will be under colors only in the event of an adverse track, otherwise the T. C. Worden silks will be entrusted to Prince Splendor. Paul L. Waggoner, who looks after the Three Ds Stock Farm Stable, announced Monday morning that the juvenile Lexy has been added to the sale of horses in training there at noon Thursday. Lexy is a chestnut daughter of Phalaros and Flivver. The opening of -the final week before the decision of the rich classic finds sixteen eligibles training for the one and one-eighth mile journey. Although several of the now probable field will be eliminated before Saturdays renewal, a field of twelve or more, will go postward for the richest stake ever offered in the Lone Star state. Roman Soldier, Sachsenmaier and Reuters sterling Cohort colt, still remains the favorite for the race, but during the past sev eral days many fans have switched their allegiance to Whiskolo, and this pair may share favoritism. Due to his consecutive triumphs, Whizz-away is commanding attention from those fans who like to string along with a dark horse. He has yet to meet any of the eligibles from the first flight and for this reason the more seasoned patrons are dubious over his chances.
