r . STEWARDS ASK REASON FOR I I RAINY WEATHERS BAD RACE - - 4 ARLINGTON, Texas, April 2. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, presiding steward, sent the following statement to the press this afternoon: "After the first race at Arlington Downs Thursday, the stewards promptly inquired the reason for Rainy Weathers bad race. Dr. Brock, track veterinarian, was dispatched to the stable to examine the filly and he reported to the stewards that the filly seemed to have strained the muscles in her back in some way. Jockey N. Leroy Pierson stated that the filly stumbled at the start when the ground broke from under her and she did not seem to get started or able to extend herself in the race at any time. "This was corroborated by assistant starter Binn, who handled the filly at the gate. Perry McGill, official plater, was sent to the stable to examine the fillys plates, and he reported that she was properly shod. The stewards will take another report on Rainy Weathers condition tomorrow before delivering an opinion."
