1 TANF0RAN TURF NOTES $ 4 Tom Donleys Arson incurred a slight cut in the running of the mile allowance race Wednesday, won by Open Range. It is not of a serious nature, although it is quite likely that trainer Russ McGuirr will pass up the Peninsula Handicap Saturday and concentrate solely on the Marchbank Handicap the following Saturday. R. F. Carman, Sr., for many years one of Americas most famous trainers, was an arrival. He was in the hospital four weeks following the Santa Anita meeting with an infected foot. Jockey Don Lyons, who was thrown when Running Heel fell after the finish of the fourth race Tuesday, may be out of the saddle for two months. An X-ray picture revealed that several small bones in his back were loosened by the fall, and although the injury does not trouble him, it is the opinion of the attending physician that unless the bones are straightened up they will cause him trouble in a few years. It may be necessary for Lyons to stay in a cast for six weeks. Senator J. N. McFr.dden, Oregon breeder and sportsman, is an arrival from the north. He has a small stable in training at Bay Meadows and has maintained for several years in Oregon a nursery where Citizen and Free Booter have stood. Lou Anger, former general manager of the Caliente Jockey Club, was an arrival from the South. Anger, who is Joseph JM. Schencks right hand man in the Twentieth Century-Fox Pictures, will remain the rest of the week. R. J. Johnson was granted a trainers license. He will condition the horses of W. A. Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz. L. W. Kidd departed for his home in Idaho City, Idaho, for a vacation and a tour of the "bushes" for riding talent.
