NARRAGANSE1TS NEW RULES Preferred List to Take Place of Also Eligible List Horgan Works Out Details. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 25. After - talking with a number of prominent horse-. men on the subject, racing secretary Pat 5 Horgan has decided to abandon the "also r eligible" list as used at Narragansett Park last year, and to introduce in its place a revised plan of the "preferred list." i Horgan has worked out the system in - detail, as below, and horsemen here have expressed themselves well satisfied with the I arrangement. They consider it will greatly simplify the usual problems shared by t trainers and the racing secretary at the entry window. 1 The also eligible list will be abandoned at Narragansett Park beginning with the spring meeting of 1936 and a preferred list ; will be instituted. Following are the rules governing the . preferred list: Fields will be drawn to twelve horses . except in stakes, entry to which will bo limited only by the number of nominations. No scratch will be allowed in any over- night race, except by permission of the stewards, who will be reasonable in view of changed track conditions, illness of horses or other sufficient reasons. In claiming races, except claiming stakes, only one horse may be entered by one interest. In making multiple entries to overnight purse races, trainers must signify a preference and all interests must be given one draw before any interest receives the benefit of two draws. The preferred list will be divided both as to distance and as to claiming price. Excluded horses will be given preference in the next regularly programmed or in the next extra race which has the same top claiming price and a distance similar to the race from which they were excluded. With regard to similarity of distance, races will be divided into sprints and races at a mile or over. If a preference is not exercised on the occasion of the first opportunity it will be voided. Preference will be extended to horses entered in races which do not fill. Races other than claiming, preference will be reckoned on the basis of distance only. In enetring preferred horses, trainers must call the fact of preference to the attention of the entry clerk or lose the preference. False claims of preference will be dealt with by the stewards. , Extra races, whenever practicable, will be written with the idea of cleaning up a division of the preferred list. For this reason the preferred list will not be posted, but any trainer believing himself entitled to a place thereon may ascertain whether his horse is or is not on the list by inquiry at the office of the racing secretary.
