i ; : t t 1 l 1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES 1 Prominent horse breeders of the Blue Grass were out in force for the opening, the representation including Thomas Piatt, Thomas Carr Piatt, Arthur B. Hancock, John H. Morris, Dr. John Baird, Samuel M. Look, Horatio Mason, J. W. Parrish, Howard Rouse, Barry Shannon and Charles R. Thompson. Others from Lexington were Carneal Kinkead, W. R. Embry and Thomas R. Underwood. Samuel C. Nuckols of Versailles, Ky., returned to the stewards stand on Kentucky tracks after an absence of nine years. He has continued in the profession however, having served in the interim at Narragansett Park, Coney Island, Tropical Park, Hialeah Park, San Antonio and other tracks. Thomas C. Bradley and John Ireland, prominent racing officials, came from their homes in Lexington and Paris, Ky. H. H. Battle announced the sale of Miss Melody to Mrs. Frank Preston, who will leave the racer in Battles care. Jockeys C. Corbett, with the Pelleteri stable, Earl Porter and Joe Tinker, are recent arrivals for the Churchill Downs meeting. The former two came from Texas, and Tinker from Latonia, where he has been galloping horses for J. B. Respess, who has leased his services from M. M. Reiser for a period of six months.
