1 BAY MEADOWS TURF NOTES T $ . and Harry Fields Seguro, shifty handicap performer, died en route to Narragansett, according to word reaching Bay Meadows. Seguro raced successfully through the winter j and spring seasons. The death of this useful I horse marks the second case in recent weeks due to shipping. Sweet Chariot had to be j destroyed en route to Narragansett recently. Louis Almgren, former fire chief of San : Diego and now owner of the Highland I Spring Stock Farm Stable, returned from the South, where he inspected his stock at Harry Unnas Imperial Beach horse clinic. Almgren has Mt. Helix, Areata and Seenarf at the Beach. Charles A. Hartwell has taken first call on jockey Bill Robertson for the remainder of the season. Robertson just returned to the saddle after a long lay-off, due to an injured foot. Kay Spence reports the arrival of a colt foal by Plucky Play — Last Wink. This marks the fifth foal Plucky Play has had at I Spences Deep Cliff Farm and there is yet to be a filly foal. Charles S. Howards three-year-old Rushing By, has been gelded and will be out of action for some time. A jockeys license was granted to George ; Russo, 17, of Brooklyn, N. Y. He is under contract to A. F. Tate. He is a maiden rider, I never having ridden at a recognized track. | He has ridden winners at the "bush" meetings, however. Budding Star popped an osselet and will be j out of the California Derby, according to trainer Roy Selden. The fast mares left I front ankle was the one to go wrong. Selden also has another member of his stable on the shelf, Morpheus. This router broke open his left front foot and probably will not race until the last few days of the , meeting. Melody Lane, also under Seldens I direction, was barred Saturday because she sulked so badly in her last race. Out of a stable of ten horses, he now has two which are ready for the races. a
