POMPOON, away quicklv and having good speed, shook otf determined opposition from SONNY JOE in the first half mile, rallied gamely when shaken up midway of the stretch and moved away steadily Hearing the finish. SONNY JOE displaed good speed to enter into contention early, made repeated bids in the first half mile, but weakened under punishment in the last eighth. BANJORINE held a forward position from the beginning, but could not threaten the first two. EXHORT went evenly all the way. GOLDEN ERA could not better its position at any stage. ZEBAR was placed on the outside for the start, showed good speed while racing wide all the way. ZOR lacked speed. The others were outrun. SANTI QUARANTI, taken under stead ing restraint until reaching the back field, went into an easy lead at the sixth fence, was steadied to all ot his fences thereafter and was never in dangr, to win easily. STIR, reserved for the first mile, improved its position steadily when put to a drive, and came courageously in the late stage*. VAUXTOl moved into contention for the last turn of the field and finished with good courage. POPPYMAN, a strong factor for the first mile and a half, weakened thereafter. AXACAN gained steadily while going wide, but could not threaten. McKINLEY B. raced nicely for the first mile, then tired. PURPLE DUST was never a factor. HETMAN was never a forward contender. DEPART was very rank and forced his field wide after the start. MACROOME was pulled up coming to the last jump. OCCOQUAN lost his rider at the ninth fence. BILLY BEE, in the thick of contention in the early racing, swung to the outside when engaging the leaders, came strongly under punishment in the last eighth after disposing of TRUMPERY, and drew out steadily at the close. TRUMPERY showed good speed while setting the pace, raced kindly, but could not withstand the winner when caught. TWICE bettered his position steadily on the outside and finished determinedly in the last eighth. GALMICA, in tight quarters midway of the back stretch, found racing room in the last five sixteenths and finished courageously. HOME LOAN had nice speed for a half mde, then weakened gradually. TOOLBOX could not reach a forward position. NIGHT SPRITE went well placed, but failed to rally when the real test came. FOLLOW ON was never a factor. Overweight — Galmica, 3 pounds. TELL IT improved its position steadily after gaining full stride and closed gamely. DOCTORS GIFT obtained racing room on the inside in the last half mile and closed stoutly. JILTED was under strong handling all the way, but could not threaten. NIGHT COURT weakened fast in the last quarter mile. TUGBOAT went evenly throughout. WRACKESS was outrun. TOP SHELL lacked speed. BRANDY FIZZ was never a factor. MEMORABLE was done after a half mile. J. BEN raced poorly. SUN WAY, badly outrun and slow to gain its best stride, swung to the outside when reaching the field at the final turn, closed fast when straightened into the stretch and got up in the last few strides. HARD CHASE outran the field to the first turn, showed good speed while setting the pace, withstood bold efforts from APATHY and fought it out strongK at the close. APATHY, prominent from the beginning, slipped through on the inside of the pacemaker entering the stretch and continued gamely to the end. INFERNO LAD, permitted to drop out of contention, made a very wide turn into the stretch, but closed with a bold rush. AMERICAN BELLE moved up gamely leaving the back stretch, but failed to rallv in the final drive. HELEN BAB raced evenly. TIGHT WAD was never a factor. BLACK RIBBON was done after three-quarters. FLUFFY LEE had a rough trip roing to the first turn.
