| AURORA TURF NOTES i s With the addition of twelve more jockeys and apprentices Tuesday, the riding colony now exceeds thirty. The new arrivals included M. Terry, J. Beech, R. Mozer, A. Richard, J. Wray, R. Clemons, R. Tilden, G. Rukas, D. McCune, D. Barnett, J. Holmes, 1 and J. Dias. Word was received at the Fox Valley I Jockey Clubs course that stewards T. G. ! Bradley and J. T. Ireland will arrive Thursday from Kentucky to assume their duties here. Al Bordeau, captain of the special officers at Aurora, was an arrival from New Or- i leans, but is ailing with a severe cold. How- I ever, the ailment was not sufficient to keep him away from his preliminary duties. Racing secretary R. A. Leigh received a communication from John I. Day, who is seeking entries for the Illinois Derby in the East, to the effect that prospects are exceedingly bright for a number of eastern candidates. The finishing touches to the betting ring have been made, and the plant is in readiness for the opening of the long Illinois racing season Friday afternoon. Apprentice Frank Chojnacki, Chicago youngster who performed with considerable success throughout the last winter in New Orleans and early spring in Texas, is due to arrive from the Lone Star State in time to sport the silks on opening day. There was considerable activity about the office of the racing secretary Wednesday morning as the result of filing registrations and applications for trainer and jockey licenses. Clyde Troutt, who finished at the top of the owners and trainers for the Louisiana Jockey Club meeting at the Fair Grounds, has his band of thoroughbreds in fine fettle and promises to make a determined bid for the ranking honors at Aurora. The Aurora track was never in better condition, according to turfmen who have been regulars at the Fox Valley track practically since the inception of racing at the course. The resurfacing of the track has brought about considerable improvement. Heart Break, which gained the distinction of being the most consistent racer to perform at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans last season, winning nine races, headed the small, but useful string of runners that R. A. Coward brought in from Texas. A special, consisting of nine express cars, arrived at the Fox Valley Jockey Clubs track from Arlington Downs, Texas, augmenting the list of thoroughbreds available for the impending Aurora meeting of nineteen days, which opens on Friday. The most pretentious of the outfits weie those owned by Mrs. E. Oros and B. Hernandez, constituting a full carload for each of the owners mentioned above, while others occupying space on the special included R. A. Coward, Mrs. H. D. Cox, Mrs. E. J. Chambers, A. G. Tarn, B. Manziel, W. C. Stroube, B. Berry, Elmer Cox, H. K. Barron, Mrs. F. West, R. B. Allen, C. E. Lana-han, G. R. Allen and J. Massey, Jr. Arrival of the special from the Lone Star State virtually taxed the stabling accommodations to capacity, but in the event of an overflow of horses, it is quite probable that some will be sent to Hawthorne for stabling quarters.
