| RED RAIN DUE TO START j I AT BELMONT PARK TODAY | J « NEW YORK, N. Y., May 12.— With a program of overnight events, the sport at Belmont Park on Wednesday afternoon will take on importance by reason of a mile event fashioned by J. B. Campbell to induce the starting of C. V. Whitneys three-year-old star, Red Rain. The son of Pennant — Dustemall is only opposed by Mrs. John Hertz Count Arthur and Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloanes Delphinium. Under the conditions both Red Rain and Delphinium carry 104 pounds while the four-year-old shoulders 113 pounds. On all the training reports of the progress of the Whitney champion he will naturally be the choice over the other two but Delphinium has been showing sparkling speed in his races and Count Arthur has been working in a fashion to suggest that both are well calculated to keep Red Rain busy. This mile event will be a part of the training for the Withers Stakes, in which both Red Rain and Delphinium are eligible and it will also serve as a final preparation for Delphiniums engagement in the Preakness, to be decided at Pimlico on Saturday. Count Arthur has no special engagements at the present Belmont Park meeting but he is in the Queens County Handicap, as well as some of the other Aqueduct features. Then there is a four and a half furlongs dash for the juvenile fillies that promises well on this same card so that even without a stake down for decision the midweek racing at the big course should be truly interesting.
