LATONIA DERBY ELIGIBLES • Thirty-Six Three-Year-Olds, Including Bold Venture, Nominated. Eight Kentucky Derby Starters Among Nominees— 5,000 Added Fixture to be Kun May 23. LATONIA, Ky., May 12.— Eight of the fourteen starters in the Kentucky Derby, including Bold Venture, the winner, were named for the 5,000 added Latonia Derby, to be run on May 23. Should Bold Venture start and win the Latonia Derby he would receive an added prize of ,000. this provision being included in the conditions of the race, entries for which closed recently with announcement of the eligibles Monday. The seven other starters in the Kentucky Derby, which were named for the Covington feature are: Granville, which lost his rider in the rough start at Churchill Downs-Merry Pete, Holl Image, Coldstream, The Fighter, Sangreal and He Did. Brevity was not among the nominees. Four Derby winners are included in the group named above: Bold Venture; The Fighter, victorious in the Texas Derby; He Did, victor in the Santa Anita Derby, and Holl Image, winner of the Arkansas Derby. Present indications are that all of the eight named will face the barrier, plus others among the thirty-six eligibles which show sufficient ability between now and the running of the race to warrant their owners paying the starting fee. It is possible that by the time Latonia Derby day rolls around Hollyrood, second choice to Brevity in the future book betting on the Kentucky Derby, will have recovered his form to such a degree that owner Hal Price Headley will send him after the prize. Should Granville start it will give him another opportunity to prove or disapprove superiority to Bold Venture, a chance he lacked at Churchill Downs because of his misfortune at the start. Other eligibles highly regarded by their stables and by turf experts who are among the Latonia Derby nominees are C. V. Whitneys Tatterdemalion, the Belair Studs Isolater. Calumet Farm Stables Count Morse, Greentree Stables Memory Book and Dixianas Erin Torch.
