KENTUCKY OAKS SATURDAY Filly Fixture as Old as Derby, Final Feature of Downs Meeting — Festival Day Monday. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 12— The Kentucky Oaks, as old as the Kentucky Derby and rich in tradition, features Churchill Downs final program of its spring meeting Saturday. An extra day of racing, to be staged by the Kentucky Derby Festival Association, is scheduled for the following Monday. Fifty-six fillies were made eligible for th« mile and a furlong journey that carries ,000 in added money, and although not more than twelve are expected to compose the field, a brilliant contest is expected. Among renowned fillies to have won this famed old fixture, which had its inception in 1875, are Vinaigrette, Belle of Nelson, Modesty, Miss Dixie, Lady Schorr, Kings Daughter, Water Blossom, Bronzewing, Kathleen, Viva America, Lillian Shaw, Lorraine, Nancy Lee, Startle, Untidy, Princess Doreen, Black Maria, Easter Stockings, Rose of Sharon, Barn Swallow and others. Although no word has been heard from the Foxcatcher Farms in regard to Gold Seeker being returned here to fill her engagement, trainer R. E. Hendlen stated when he shipped the daughter of Messenger east that she would be back for the Oaks. She demonstrated in her Chesapeake Stakes victory that she was one of the leading three-year-olds of the year and should she be sent after the rich prize she probably will be installed the favorite. Mary Terry, winner of the Misses Purse here, in which she got up to beat Dora May by a nose; the latter; Brendard, which finished third in the race; Erla, Seventh Heaven, Sky o Blue, Spur Flower, Miss Diavolo. For Romance, Threadneedle, Southern Belle and others are expected to be among the starting field. Brendard, the hope of Dixiana, had a useful preparation for the race over the fast track this morning when she breezed seven furlongs in 1:31. She was timed the three-quarters in 1:17%. Threadneedle was timed a five-furlong sprint in 1:03%, breezing. She was timed the half mile in :49%. Sky o Blue was given a three-furlong opener in preparation for a longer test tomorrow, and the Dripping Springs Purse, at one mile and the feature of Wednesdays card, is expected to be a good test for the race. Sky o Blue breezed the distance in :39.
