,000 GOVERNORS HANDICAP Eight Named for Narragansett Half-Holiday Feature — Dark Hope Probable Choice. PAWTUCKET, R. I., May 15— The ,000 Governors Handicap, which is the top offering on the week-end program at the popular racing grounds here, has drawn a field of eight, and promises one of the most stubborn battles of the meeting, which will enter on its final week Monday. The stake carries ,000 added and will be decided at a mile and a furlong. The invasion of J. W. Y. Martins Dark Hope, winner of the rich Dixie at Pimlico last week, has added considerable interest to the feature. The slashing brown gelding arrived here looking fit as a fiddle, and it is probable he will rule the choice in what looks to be a wide open betting race. He will have no mean field to down in the Governors. The scarlet spots of Belair again will be carried by Gallant Prince, the horse that took the King Philip Handicap here last Saturday. This son of Gallant Fox ha3 trained excellently after his victory. Also slated for the race is W. G. Clysdales Allen Z., the most improved horse on the grounds. After defeating Clang in the opening day stake here, this racer showed he could travel a route when he set the pace in the King Philip and had the winner out to the last ounce to defeat him. He is in rare form right now and is a factor to be reckoned with. It is certain he will make them step fast in the early stages for he possesses plenty of speed. Brookmeade has decided to rely upon Good Goods instead of shipping Neap for the event. Araho Stable, the nom de course of Mrs. Walter OHara, will send out Howard. Last week the Araho Stable entry of Howard and New Deal was one of the most heavily backed choices of the meeting, and their defeat was a crushing blow to the Bridge jumpers. New Deal will get a short rest. Howard, a fit horse, may have needed last Saturdays effort and should improve off it. The outsiders in the field are Roustabout, Rip Van Winkle, and Fidelis. Dark Hope will carry the top weight of 116 in the event, one pound more than Good Goods is asked to lug. Allen Z. will carry 110, Gallant Prince, 108, and the others scale down to the light weight Rip Van Winkle, which has the eiderdown weight of ninety-nine.
