BILL FARNSWORTH WINS AGAIN » Holds Big Margin Over Lovely Girl at Finish of Race. » Jockey J. Bryson Riding Star at Pimlico— Semi-Final Day of Meeting — Weather Conditions Favorable. BALTIMORE, Md., May 15.— Mrs. T. M. Cassidy furnished the winner of the best offering listed on the semi-final program of the Maryland Jockey Club at Pimlico today when her silks were flaunted to victory by her handy three-year-old Bill Farnsworth in the Happy Times Purse. A test of six fur- I j longs that served as the sixth race. Meeting | i contention from seven other seasoned sprint- l ers of his own age, the fleet son of Crack Brigade and Princess Nora was good enough under the confident handling of jockey J. I Stout to lead from end to end to score by a wide margin to keep his record for the year unstained. He sped over the distance in l:124/3, considered good time over a track i that was rated fast and reached the end | enjoying a lead of almost three lengths. Lovely Girl, bearing the banner of the Bo- I I mar Stable, was the one to chase the winner to the close of the contest, while third fell to the lot Edward Bruners Aneroid when he easily took the measure of Sobriety, Genie Palatine. Bubblette, Sir Windsor and ! My Colin, which finished in the order named. A winner at Jamaica before this particular J engagement, Bill Farnsworth had the jump on his opponents by his alertness at the stall , i | gate, and J. Stout permitted him to step into | i immediate command. Going along smoothly, j i I the Cassidy colt found strong opposition from Sobriety and Aneroid in the early | I 1 stages and he was unable to draw clear until j reaching the turn for home. Shaken up for ! the drive through the straightaway, Bill | ! Farnsworth quickly put Sobriety away, then | increasing his speed, came away steadily until he landed past the last line winner by two lengths. Lovely Girl, a double winner in this section, made her usual honest effort to run j down Aneroid for second honors, beating | ! that colt a half length for that part of the j prize, while Sobriety was beaten two addi-| , tional lengths as he led the four others. j Conditions that could hardly have been | j improved lured one of the largest off-day I i gatherings to the Hill Top plant, and racing I I as conducted was exciting and interesting. j Jockey J. Bryson, with a triple riding score, I : all of which came consecutively, was the 1 I ! star of the afternoon. He was astride Riding [High, Fluffy Lee and Billy Bee. j Bomar Stables Billy Bee scored his third ! success in four starts at the Pimlico meeting I 1 ! and the fourth of his spring campaign when i he drove to a one-length victory over Ral Parrs Star Porter in the Baltimorean, I which was the fifth race on the card. His ! previous score had been made at the recent ■ Havre de Grace meeting. The winner was i I handled by jockey J. Bryson, and this riders ! success was his third victory in as many j efforts, the Bomar Stable lad having been j astride the winners of the third, fourth and fifth events. Billy Bee did not have the speed to go to i the front that he has displayed in previous j races and was waited with until he settled into his full stride behind the pace set by j Sailor Beware, with Star Porter in second I place Sailor Beware gave way to the charge of Star Porter on the turn, and at the same I juncture Billy Bee was sent after the leaders. Coming to the outside Billy Bee surged I into command as the field raced into the j stretch, but while Sailor Beware was done, ! Star Porter had something in reserve and | forced Bryson to keep his charge under pres- sure to the finish. E. K. Brysons Genial Manners graduated from the maiden ranks when she defeated i ten other maiden two-year-olds entered to i be claimed for ,000 each in the opening I dash of four and a half furlongs. The daugh- ! ter of Broadway Jones and La Recolte, rid- ! den by J. Renick, defeated Sugaboot by two j lengths, with Tidy Lady another length away and a head before Frisco Kid. Genial Manners was lucky to get to the rail right after the start and she slipped through on the inside of the leaders to take the lead right after reaching the stretch. Sugaboot probably was best but she was compelled to be pulled up by Tidy Lady right after the start and again by Frisco Kid on the turn and then when making her run through the stretch she swerved in behind Frisco Kid and lost some time while being straightened out. Fling quit badly. Genial Manners was favored. Thomas H. Somervilles Syriac scored his first steeplechase victory in taking the second event in the easiest sort of fashion. Covering the two miles in 3:46%, within two and two-fifths of the track record, the aged Flying Ebony gelding defeated A. B. Hag-ners Flying Feathers by eight lengths, Mrs. C. K. Bassetts McKinley B. taking third a head away and well before Little Woman, the tiring favorite. Syriac was rated smoothly by E. Mitchell for a turn and a half of the field and moved up hurriedly when called upon to take command at the twelfth fence, drawing away easily thereafter. Flying Feathers also made a late challenge but he could not menace Syriac. McKinley B. became a factor after the first turn of the field and held on well while Little Woman tired after racing Occo-quan into defeat in the first mile and a half. Syriac was second choice. L. G. Blumes Riding High, hustled to the front right after the start from his inside post position, held sway all the way over the six furlongs distance of the third race to defeat Miss Snow, the favorite, by a head. Mint Bud was well back in third place but narrowly ahead of Flosilda, Taunton, Moretide, Black Ribbon and Strophe. J. Bryson guided the winner. Riding High and Miss Snow were always ahead of the others drawing away around the turn and holding the others safe, the Sir James filly outgam-ing the favorite in the stretch drive. Fluffy Lee was dropped back into hei own class today and gained a nose decision in the fourth over Home Work, while Skim along was well back in third place, with Infilee among the eight cheap platers going a mile and a sixteenth. Mrs. C. W. Wil I Hams mare was the favorite and had to be strongly ridden to give Bryson a double as ; he had guided the previous winner.
