62ND RENEWAL OF OAKS •.- Churchill Downs Filly Fixture as Old as Derby. ♦ Race Final Headline Offering of Current Louisville Meeting — Twelve Fillies Named Overnight. M LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15.— The meeting of Churchill Downs, Inc., one of the most successful ever held at Churchill Downs, | comes to a close tomorrow with the running of the ,000 added Kentucky Oaks, for three-year-old fillies, and seven other races The program is the nineteenth since the meeting opened on Saturday, April 25, and j the regular session it concludes will be fol- i lowed by a one-day meet for the benefit of the Derby Festival Week Association on | Monday. Tomorrows running of the Kentucky Oaks, the sixty-second in as many years since the stake had its inception in 1875, the same year the Kentucky Derby was founded, is expected to prove one of the finest in many years from the spectators viewpoint. Twelve, including all the ranking western three-year-old fillies and the invader. Two Bob, have been named for the race. It will be decided over a mile and a furlong and at least nine of the dozen entered are expected to start. Chief dependence for another western triumph in the old prize is held in H. P. Headleys Sparta, which has been campaigned in the East; C. T. Fishers Bren-dard; C. R. Thompsons Mary Terry; Mrs. j R. J. Murphys Stepinanna, and Morris Ve-hons Threadneedle. Should the eastern threat, C. V. Whitneys Two Bob, finish in front, she would j register the first eastern conquest since 1932, in which year W. S. Kilmers Suntica cap-• tured the stake. Others named for tomorrows renewal are Lady Confucius, also owned by Mrs. Murphy; J. C. Stones Asyouwere; Howard Oots Marica; W. C. Goodloes Seventh Heaven; J. S. Rileys Spur Flower, and Mrs. Gus Simones Dora May. Those not regarded as certain contestants are Dora May, Lady Con fucius and Spur Flower. With the lone exception of the maiden Asyouwere, which will take up 109 pounds, each of the starters will carry 116 pounds. Nine stnrters will give the stake a gross value of ,235, the largest since 1932. The second horse will receive ,000, with 00 to third, and 50 to fourth. In addition to the purse money, the owner of the winner will receive a valuable silver trophy. Starting with Barn Swallow in 1933, the West has registered three successive victories, as Fiji took the 1934 running, and Paradisical accounted for the old fixture last year. Latonia a week later, and some of the leading western sprinters are down to compete in the Au Revoir Handicap. Clashing at one mile and a sixteenth, Erin Torch. Prince Fellow, Songmaker, Holl Image, Silas, Wise Duke and Kailin will have final opportunity to qualify for the Latonia prize in the Latonia Special, while the Au Revoir will match Dusty Dawn, Grand Rock, Chief Cherokee, Rock X., Top Dog, Silk Mask and Tea rout at six furlongs. Large and well matched fields will meet in the less important events, the first of which will start at 2 oclock.
