IMPRESSIVE JUVENILE Crows Flight Star of Day at Churchill Downs Course. Finishes With Brilliant Rush to Win Main Event — Chalk Eye Defeats Billies Orphan. • LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 15.— With a performance highly indicative of his eventual ranking as one of the best stayers among the crop of juveniles introduced during the meeting, Crows Flight was one of the brighter stars of todays racing at Churchill Downs with a sparkling victory in the Rosewood Purse. In this five furlong allowance purse, Crows Flight decisively de feated his stable companion, Sweepalot, Ker-may and five others. Making up almost six lengths with a rush in the stretch, Crows Flight raced from fourth place in a quarter to be an easy and decisive winner at the finish. He raced the distance on a fast track in the excellent time of :59?5 and won by a length and one-half. His stablemate defeated Kermay, which ruled a strong second choice, by about two lengths for second, and the others, of which Monon Lad was fourth, finished well strung out. The afternoon events, staged under ideal weather, were witnessed by one of the largest other than Saturday crowds of the meeting. T. C. Wordens Bert Reid, hammered down to favoritism in the betting, outgamed Miss Melody in a bristling stretch duel to account for the fifth race, in which twelve matched speed over three-quarters. Crowning Glory finished third, with French Princess next. From a fast start Bert Reid and the runner-up went on to lead throughout, and their stirring drive terminated with Bert Reid just a short neck before his stubborn foe. Crowning Glory was two lengths farther back. A dull performance by Cherry Time marked the sprint. Miss Lizzie, an even-money chance in the betting, justified the confidence of her backers by racing to victory over All Bays, King Cicero and five others in the first race, at one mile and one-sixteenth. The winner, owned by A. J. Stallings, set all the pace and held sway easily until the final eighth, where B. James was forced to a drive to keep her before the -fast finishing All Bays. Charging down the outside, the latter had King Cicero, which finished third, in close quarters near the end, and with more room might have been more troublesome. While at the post All Bays suffered a hard fall and more ill luck befell him soon after the start, where Oswego Princess, in coming tver from the outside, forced him back. With allowances for his poor luck, he appeared best. Jockey M. Calvert, who was astride him, suffered bruises in the fall before the start. Bright Land, racing under Mrs. W. Crumps colors and having H. W. Fisher in the saddle, made it two in a row for the public choices when he spread-eagled a large Dand of juvenile maidens over five furlongs in the second race. Fisher got the son of Bright Knight av/ay in front and running the distance in 1:60%, was never in trouble. At the finish his advantage over Gabriel, which accounted for second, was five lengths. Imperial Polly, a field horse, finished third a neck behind Gabriel and a length and one half before Chestnut Queen. Interference eliminated the second choice, School-mom. Chalk Eye, well backed though not the choice, scored his second victory of the meeting when he outgamed the favorite, Billies Orphan, over seven furlongs in the third race. Of ten others to see action here, Ten-ace finished nearest the leaders. She was about three lengths away from the favorite, which missed victory by a neck. With Night Flower, which as a well circulated tip mustered considerable support for the mutuel field, tiring badly after an early flash of speed, the race evolved into a three-cornered affair between the final three leaders though Tenace never seriously threatened the winner and runner-up. __ » —
