j TWO MORE ENTRIES FOR | THE DETROIT DERBY j DETROIT, Mich., May 18.— The addition j today of Split Second, stakes winning filly from the King Ranch, and E. W. Duffys ! Capt. Byam to the list of nominations for the Detroit Derby, swells the total to fifty-five. Nominations for the 5,000 added prize closed Friday night and were released Saturday. The nominations of these three-year-olds were postmarked Friday. According to word brought here today by racing secretary Webb Everett, several nominations may arrive late today or tomorrow from the Pacific Coast. Split Second is trained by Max Hirsch, Bold Ventures conditioner. Everett immediately opened his office and took a check of the nominations for the ,000 added Wolverine Handicap, which features the opening days program Saturday. Nominations for the mile and a sixteenth race close Tuesday night and weights will be released Thursday. A score of the better grade handicap performers have been made eligible for the Wolverine, and Everett expects the list to double between now and closing time. The arrival of Azucar and eleven others from California, six carloads of horses from Churchill Downs and a carload from Maryland this morning, increased tr ; horse colony to more than 400. By Friday the 900 available stalls will be occupied.
