LADY DAY. in closest pursuit of the winner throughout, held on gamely to the end. CAPT. YARBROUGH raced to the inside after leaving the back stretch and lugged in all the way. He held on willingly at the end. DUSKY MISS raced evenly. WHITTLE closed some ground on the outside. GAY SWEEP was unable to improve her position. FOXO, shuffled back at the start, was unable to recover. BOOM TOWN was outrun. JAMESYILLE was badly knocked back in the crowding that occurred at the far turn and had no chance thereafter. TAKUS, hustled to the front in the run down the back stretch, drew clear after rounding the far turn and, steadied along in front, drew out winning with speed in reserve. SOPHIST, outpaced early, was fortunate in obtaining clear sailing on the inside when making his effort, closed stoutly and was up inside the last twenty jards to gain the place. MADERIS forced the pace of the winner practically throughout and held on well to the close. SCOTCH QUEEN was forwardly placed the entire way. STICKHANDLE, well place 1 while following within striking distance of the leaders and. holding to a position on the outside, was unable to improve his position under punishment in the last five-eighths. MOUNTAIN ELK, buffeted about at the start, was soon straightened out, followed the pace closely until nearing the half mile ground, assumed a slight lead, carried PAY RACK slightly wide at the stretch turn, fought it out determinedly and outlasted PAY RACK at the end. The latter, restrained early, moved up stoutly, appeared ready to go to the front, but hung in the drive. PAY RACKS rider lodged a claim of foul against the winner, but it was disallowed. ONEILL, outrun early, closed with a belated burst of speed. BELIEVER, rated close up, was unable to improve his position when placed under pressure. BULL MARKET, well placed and slightly restrained early, was unable to enter into serious contention when placed under punishment. JOHN DOE retired after going about five eighths. DEDUCE moved up stoutly on the inside leaving the back stretch, overhauled HAPPY KNOT to take the lead inside the last eighth and just failed to hold on lomr enough. HAPPY KNOT had keen early speed, but faltered after going five-eighths and barely lasted to hold the show. BUBBLESOME closed with a tush on the inside through the stretch. SEABISCUIT took command in the run to the first turn, opened up steadily, was roused midway down the back stretch, withstood a determined bid from PICCOLO, shook off the latter after straightenine out in the stretch and drew out steadily in the last sixteenth. PICCOLO moved up stoutly on the outside down, the back stretch, appeared ready to go to the front in the stretch, moved to the leader and, bumped slightly, dropped back. SWAMP ANGEL, outrun early, closed determinedly in the last three eighths. STE. LOUISE, well placed earlv, was unable to keep up in the drive. NIGHTCAP was going willingly at the close* HERONDAS tired. SANDY BOOT was never a factor.
