NOTABLE STAKES RENEWALS Outlook Bright for Great Fields for Both Withers and Belmont Stakes. NEW YORK, N. Y, May 18.— Both the Withers of next Saturday and the Belmont, to be run June 6, hold out promise of being remarkable renewals. For the Withers, at this time, there are seven that are almost sure to be seen under silks, while the mile and a half classic may bring out as many as nine. For the Withers most of the interest will be in the first meeting of Joseph E. Wideners Brevity and C. V. Whitneys Red Rain. Then there is Mrs. Isabel Dogde Sloanes Delphinium, recent conqueror of Red Rain in a mile race, which will attract a great deal of attention no matter what his showing may be in the Swift this afternoon. John Hay Whitneys Mr. Bones, which is also to start in the Swift, is heading for the Withers, as is Edward R. Bradleys Bow to Me, and the two other probable starters are Coldstream Studs Coldstream and Walter M. Jeffords Jean Bart. Then for the Belmont Stakes the three that appear to be remarkably close together are Morton L. Schwartz Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, Bold Venture, William Woodwards Granville, barely beaten by the Schwartz colt in the Preakness, and the one that has not yet met Bold Venture, C. V. Whitneys Red Rain. There need be no others to make the renewal a remarkable one, but it is probable that Tatterdemalion will be sent out to bear Red Rain company. Bob Smith has said he would start Mrs. Isabel Dodge Sloanes Corundum, which should be well suited in the long gallop, and Mr. Bones, Jean Bart and Mrs. Marion Dupont Somervilles Transporter also may be sent to the post. It cannot be remembered when so many good ones have come through the rigors of early training as have these, and at least four of them — Bold Venture, Brevity, Granville and Red Rain — appear to be so close together that only the trying distance of a mile and a half will thoroughly determine which is best. *
