1 HAWTHORNE TURF NOTES s $ The claim of Mrs. G. B. Scallon for Inflame, a starter in the third race at Hawthorne Friday, was disallowed by the stewards because of improper registration. While escaping serious injury in the fall he suffered at Hawthorne Friday, apprentice Basil James received cuts and bruises to the right leg painful enough to force him to cancel his Saturday engagements and he may not resume riding before Tuesday. The first condition books for the Dade Park meeting, opening August 8, reached Hawthorne Saturday morning and were distributed from the office of the racing secretary. Jockey J. Rosen arrived from Detroit and reports to the E. W. Duffy stable at Arlington Park. George Julian is making Rosens engagements. The policing of Hawthorne under the direction of Lieut. Edward Kelly was so thorough that complaints, all of minor nature, were few during the meeting just closed. Following the close of Saturdays racing only a few stables with accommodations at Arlington Park remained at Hawthorne and all of these were to make the short trip from Cicero to the north side course early Sunday. Among the few stables still at Hawthorne are several that will be leaving next week for Thistle Downs, the big Cleveland course opening July 7. C. W. "Timmie" Hay, Hawthornes general manager, will not be returning to his Scotland Farm in Kentucky for a week or ten days, after meeting details in connection with his position requiring his presence here for that long a period following the meetings close. J. L. Roberts, prominent turfman whose trainers license was revoked by the Hawthorne stewards several days ago, arrived I here, presumably to request a hearing be- I fore the Hawthorne officials.
