THREATENS AGAWAM RECORD Aneroid Makes Backers Happy by Scoring Easy Victory in Concord Purse Rain Falls. AGAWAM, Mass., June 27. To the accompaniment of loud cheers from his happy supporters, Aneroid, bay three-year-old unsexed son of The Porter, returned from his unsuccessful campaign at Suffolk Downs to prove the easiest sort of winner of the Concord Purse, feature event of this afternoons card at Agawam Park. The winner raced the five and a half furlongs in 1:05, which, though a second slower than the track record, was still impressive because of the handy manner in which he scored, passing the judges some four lengths in the van of Our Crest, from the E. A. Sexton stable, which was second, while the latter, in turn, headed Joyride, owned by Miss Mary Hirsch, fourth money going to D. Y. Elander, Jr.s Ste. Louise. A field of eight lined up at the gate and after a slight delay starter Gregory sent them away in good alignment, with Aneroid swiftly going to the front, gaining a length before they had raced a sixteenth. Jockey C. Rosengarten then took a nice hold on the colts head, still permitting him to set the pace, but still racing well within himself. In the early stages Our Crest and Chief Hollis both made efforts to wear the leader down, but Aneroid easily held them safe. As the turn into the home stretch was reached, Rosengarten gave his mount a slight breathing spell. While he was doing, this Our Crest moved up on him, giving his supporters high hopes, but the. instant Aneroid was again permitted to go on, he killed any confidence Our Crest followers had, drawing away to an easy win. The attendance was close to the fifteen thousand mark. The weather man was on his bad behavior, serving up dull overhead skies, which at times sprinkled rain, driving the large crowd on the lawn to shelter.
