TEENIER. WINS UNEXPECTEDLY Dennis Colorbearer Surprises in Opening Race at Kansas City -Lightin Bill Second. KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 27. Teenie R.f carrying the colors of J. A. Dennis and ridden by jockey J. Adams, was the surprise winner of the first race when she easily led home the band of ten that went postward to compete for the purse over the distance of one mile. Two and one-half lengths back of the winner came another outsider in Mrs. J. Vaughans Lightin Bill, which finished two lengths in the clear of G. Tillers Krak-erjac, with the favored Pennant Bearer a length and one-half farther back. From a fast start, Pennant Bearer was the first to show in front and Stalling made use of his early speed and hustled him into a long lead in the first half mile. Teenie R. was laying in second position and galloping along steadily under slight restraint, and St. Mica was showing the way to the others. As the field approached the lower turn Teenie R. had -taken command and was drawing away. Pennant Bearer was holding second place, but was beginning to show signs of distress, and Lightin Bill was moving up fast on the outside. Teenie R. easily held her lead over Lightin Bill, which came fast in the final eighth to take second place. Pennant Bearer dropped back badly in the final eighth and was badly beaten. Route runners dominated todays card at Riverside Park and seven of the eight races on the card were at a mile or over, with the eighth race being at one and one-half miles. The seventh race, named the Missouri State Fair Handicap, was given the position of honor on the card, and this attracted a sniall but well-matched field of route runners to go one and one-sixteenth miles. The fifth race, the Sedalia Handicap, brought together eight of the best sprinters at the track to go six furlongs. The weather was ideal and, while outsiders dominated the . first two races, the sport was thoroughly enjoyed by one of the largest crowds of the meeting.
