RAIN WRECKS PROGRAM River Downs Thursday Feature Off and Only Seven Races Run. Miss Bonnie Surprises by Taking Measure of Oddesa Boy and Overplay Over Muddy Racing Strip. CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct 7. A rain that fell during the greater part of the night and the hard downpour after the entries closed yesterday wrecked the attractive program arranged for River Downs first mid-week offering. The featured Netherland Plaza Handicap, which was the scheduled feature of the eight-race program, was declared off. A carded substitute event replaced the fifth and only seven races were offered. Cloudy skies prevailed most of the afternoon but despite the unpropitious conditions, a surprisingly large crowd was present. With the racing strip muddy only those performers preferring such footing were under colors. Favorites and second choices predominated in the early events and the first mild surprise came with the third race, for better grade plater juveniles, irhis resulted in victory for Dan Lehans Miss Bonnie, which reached the end of six furlongs a length before Oddesa Farms Oddesa Boy. Overplay came from far back to garner third honors. Wowo, a 13 to 10 choice, led only Hustle Along to the finish. , WOWO DISAPPOINTMENT. Miss Bonnie, a home-bred daughter of Harry Baker and Bonnie M., had the services of Tyrus Meloche and she was rushed to the front- Monon Lad and Wowo were right with her and the trio raced as a team to the far bend, where the winner began to draw clear. Turning for the run for home, Wowo gave up the chase and Oddesa Boy began to gain on Monon Lad. Inside the final three-sixteenths Oddesa Boy reached second place, but he tired and Overplay, which came from far back was fast gaining on him at the end. Georgia Mcaden drove past Monon Lad in the last eighth and she was some eight lengths before him at the end. Dulcimer, superior mud-running daughter of Morvich which races for Miss Janett Van Winkle, was a driving winner of the opening event, which attracted eleven platers at six furlongs. Blagden was second, a neck back of the winner and ten lengths before House Baby, a 17-to-10 choice. Bert Thornton drove the Van Winkle filly to the front, and she was good enough to withstand Blagdens repeated challenges. House Baby moved up fast after racing five-sixteenths, but tired in the final furlong and was no match for the leaders. MAKES AMENDS. Great Meadows, which disappointed in his previous asking, made amends when he carried W. E. Nutters colors to a driving victory at the end of the mile and forty yards race that served as the second. Vellas Choice, which held sway to the stretch, was second, and Nawab finished third. Silent Don, a strong third choice to the winner and Nawab, quit badly in the drive. The first camera finish came with the substitute fifth event, when Zebulo and Miss Twinkling reached the end of six furlongs a head apart. Hamburger Jim was third, a length back of Miss Twinkling and three and one-half lengths before Yankee Waters. Mis3 Twinkling and Hamburger Jim raced in close order from the start, with the former forming Hamburger Jim wide entering the stretch. Rodriguez, who was completing a double, took the winner to the inside to avoid the mishap and had him up in the final stride. D. E. Spcch vanned Princess Pyre from Detroit and D. Hoffman brought Donna Barona, Felawake and Galley Sweep from Beulah Park.
