COAST FALL SEASON BEGINS Tanforan Inaugurates Twenty-Five Day Meeting Many Changes in Official Family. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Oct 7. Another autumn racing season gets under way at the revamped Tanforan track Thursday afternoon. With upward of 1,000 horses on the grounds, a brilliant twenty-five days of the sport is expected. In the horse colony are many animals of handicap caliber, as well as several hundred very useful platers. The colors of a number of stables which are making their first appearance in the West will be seen at Tanforan during the meeting. Not only has the Tanforan track been remodeled since the spring meeting, but the personnel of the official staff has undergone quite a change. Floyd McKenny, connected with the Tanforan course for many years, has been elevated to the position of presiding steward, while James F. Gallagher, also a veteran employe of Tanforan, has been advanced from placing judge to associate steward. Julius G. Recder, a newcomer in the West, replaces Webb Everett as racing secretary, and C. L. Harding, a familiar figure on San Francisco greyhound tracks, is in charge of the mutuels department. C. W. "Windy" Ross, who has been quite ill for the past year and a half, was a visitor at Tanforan the day before the opening. Ross may get together a small string for raoing here. Trainer E. L. "Woody" Fitzgerald of the Northway Stable is reported quite ill. Fitzgerald was recently kicked by a horse, and his recovery has not been as rapid as had been expected.
