Won driving; second and third the same. - STRIDER broke fast and showed high early speed, drew away into a safe lead, but was tiring fast at the end. DICKERY DOCK improved her position steadily from a slow beginning and finished with a rush on the outside. BELSHAZZAR moved up when called upon in the stretch, but hung in the Final drive. SPICY showed an even effort all the way. STAR LOOM was close up from the start, but faltered badly in the stretch run. GOLDSPRAY had no early speed, but closed ground over tired horses. Won driving; second and third the same. GUARDED QUEEN followed the early pace under steady restraint, moved up fast on the outside and bore in slightly inside the eighth post and then drew away; but was tiring fast. TAKE HEED, close to the pace from the start, bore in on SORCERESS at the eighth post and then was swerving at the finish. She was disqualified for fouling. BETTY VIC improved her position steadily from a slow beginning and finished with a rush on the outside. REIGH HELEN was outrun in the early stages, but made up ground steadily at the end. POMPISH showed a good effort. BUTTER, fractious at the post, unseated her rider and ran away a mile, broke from outside the stalls and then faltered from her early efforts. HAPPY HAZEL began slowly, but finished well. SORCERESS was racing strongly when bumped and was forced to take up at the eighth post. THIRD RACE 5 3-4 FURLONGS. Wise Counsellor, July 22, 19241:073115. MERGE improved his position steadily on the inside, saved much ground rounding the stretch turn and outlasted YETIVE in the final strides. The latter raced forwardly from the start, made a determined bid under pressure and then came again in the final sixteenth. IDLE MIDGET was blocked in the early running and could not get to the front. LOYAL SON showed early speed, but quit in the stretch. GOLD CROSS was outrun in the early stages. BRIGHT HAVEN was kept forwardly throughout while saving ground, and held on gamely to the end. DUNLILT had a flash of early speed, but quit badly.
