RIVER DOWNS FRIDAY CARD Replete With Surprises, Including Alice Highland Victory in Third. Meal Weather and With Indies Guests of Management Largest Crowd of Week Turns Out. CINCINNATI. Ohio, Oct 30. H. C. Ragans Alice Highland won her second race in four starts and provided the third surprise when she was an easy winner of the third race, the best of an all claiming program offered for the semi-final of the River Downs fall season this afternoon. She made her own pace to reach the end of the three-quarters, which she covered over a track classified as fast in 1:14, two and a half lengths before Kittys Rival. Third honors went to Lady Dedlock, with Nancy R., the favorite, finishing fourth. Kittys Rival, Lady Dedlock, Nancy R. and Lac-Ha-Carolyn were heads apart at the end and the picture was called for to separate them. Under Bert Thornton, the daughter of Kai-Sancr orinted into a good lead during the opening quarter, with Kittys Rival always In closest pursuit and well before Swift Air. Nancy R. moved into contention after a half mile, but after reaching third position tired and Lady Dedlock, which came from a good ways back, got up to head her for minor honors. Swift Air tired in the drive. With ideal weather conditions again prevailing and the ladies the guests of the management, the largest week-day crowd of the meeting was present for a program which was full of surprises. UP IN LAST STRIDE. J. B. Respcss furnished the winner of the opening race, for maiden two-year-olds, when Black Arrow, a home-bred son of Hildur and The Widow Cutting, got up in the last stride to beat the lightly regarded I Do at the end of six furlongs." Eye Jay, a strongly supported choice, was third, a half length back of I Do, and the same, distance before the fast-finishing OBantam. Ridden by E. Rodriguez and never far back while I Do and Jack Greenock dominated the pace, the winner moved up fast in the stretch to gain the verdict in a camera finish. Eye Jay was well lip throughout and Bold General showed little to merit his support. Another disappointment came with the second race, also at six furlongs, when the lightly regarded Belle of Midway, from the Verona Stock Farm, turned back the heavily supported Thoughtful, Jerdan and nine other lowly platers. Never far back while Thoughtful was showing the way, the winner, ridden by the veteran W. Boganowski, drove to the front entering the stretch to reach the finish five lengths before Thoughtful, which enjoyed a length and one-half advantage over Jerdan. Monie Blue tired but carried off fourth laurels. The field combination was the second choice but none of the four members showed enough to justify the backing. Rodriguez was astride his second winner when he guided Stonecrop. to an easy victory over Oomino Player, Thunder Lou and eight others .in- the fourth race, also at six furlongs. Racing Domino Player into submission after a half mile, the winner came to the finish well in hand and two lengths before him, with Thunder Lou, the choice, much the best of the fast finishing Indian Lace for minor honors. Persuader, the second choice, was never a factor. The leading trio held sway throughout.
