Detroit Announces List of Stakes . 0,000 Added Frontier Handicap to Be Run June 26 Heads Scheduled Attractions Minimum Purse Set at 00 Expect Better Class of Horses DETROIT, Mich., April 14. The spring meeting of the Detroit Racing Association, opening on May 29 and preceded by a program on Friday,. May 28, for the benefit of the Horsemens Relief Society, will feature thirteen stakes and handicaps with an aggregate value of 1,000 in added money. Announcement to this effect was made yesterday by Clarence Lehr, president and general manager of the Motor City track. At the same time Lehr ordered distribution of stakes entry blanks and the first condition books underway. The program book contains conditions for the first seven days of the thirty-seven day meeting; also the card of eight events for horsemens relief to be staged Friday, May 28. Racing officials for the meeting will be the same as announced by president Lehr from Hot Springs a month ago. They include Joseph A. Murphy, as steward in charge of racing; Jack S. Young and William A. Quigley, associate stewards; Webb A. Everett, racing secretary; Edward Thomas, starter, and James F. Gallagher, John Carey and Everett, placing judges. 0,000 FRONTIER HANDICAP. Headed by the 0,000 added Frontier Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, to be run at one mile and three-sixteenths on June 26, the roster of principal races includes the following: The ,000 added Col. Alger Memorial Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at one and one-sixteenth miles, to be run May 31; ,000 added Fontchar-train Stakes, for three-year-olds, at one and one-sixteenth miles, to be run June 12; ,000 added Wolverine Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at one and one-sixteenth miles, to be run June 19; ,000 added Moslem Temple Stakes, for two-year-olds, at five and one-half furlongs, to be run June 23; ,000 added Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and over, at six furlongs, to be run May 29. DIFFERENT CLOSING TIMES. Nominations will close at different times in many instances within a few days of the date of running. For example, entries to the Inaugural Handicap, the opening day May 29 feature, will close on May 5. President Lehr hopes to see the 0,000 Frontier Handicap, one of the richest races of its kind, develop into one of the countrys very outstanding events. He also anticipates crack fields for the Moslem Stakes, for juveniles, Pontchartrain Stakes, for three-year-olds, and other of the features. The minimum purse will be 00, with dally overnight features of ,000 or more. Each program will comprise eight races. Requests for stalls already in the hands of president Lehr indicate such a big improvement in the class of horses over past seasons that Detroit turf fan3 may safely look forward to racing on a par with the finest possible. Many of the countrys largest and most formidable stables are scheduled to participate in the meeting. All correspondence in connection with the meeting should be addressed to Clarence E. Lehr, 1202 Lafayette Building, Detroit. Des Dressen, director of the mutuel department, has been here for the past week, and judge Murphy is expected early next month.
