MAIN MANS FAST TRIAL 1 J. B. Respess Derby Hope Works a Mile in 1:40 at Keeneland. Owner and Trainer Well Pleased and May Start Colt During the Meeting Opening Saturday. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 14. Main Man, J the Kentucky Derby candidate of J. B. Res-pess of Erlanger, Ky., Increased his colony of admirers at Keeneland this morning when he worked a mile in 1:40 in handy fashion. This was the fastest trial of a Derby hope thus far noted in this section. The son of Hildur Rosemist was ridden j by jockey Bobby Dotter and carried about 115 pounds. Breaking off at the mile post, he went the opening quarter in :23, the Half mile in :48, three-quarters in 1:134 i and was going smoothly through the final ; quarter. Both his owner and trainer, B. F. Eyerman, were highly pleased with the performance, and Main Man is expected to be seen under colors early during the local . meeting. j The track was in fast condition despite light showers during the morning, although ; later during training hours it became slower. , Old Nassau, the H. P. Headley Derby hope, j went three furlongs in :37, while Valted, son of Teddy Sunmela in the Valdina Farms stable, covered four furlongs from the barrier in :47. Eagle Pass attempted to keep up with Valted, but was beaten two lengths. Another notable trial was that of the four-year-old Sparta, which breezed a mile in 1:42, being slowed down after doing the first six furlongs in 1:14. EXPERIMENTAL HANDICAPS OFF. Sidney S. Brown, who is in charge of the secretarys office, announced that the Experimental Handicaps had been called off and two overnight handicaps over the same distance would be substituted in their stead. The Experimental was scheduled for next Wednesday, with the runoff on the following Wednesday. A. C. Detwiler, trainer for Mrs. B. Franz-heim, arrived with nine horses, of which Compensatory and Gay Troubador were quartered at Keeneland and the others at the Fair Grounds. Trainer W. E. Coburn arrived from New Orleans with the stable of Conn Smythe, headed by Shoeless Joe. Others in the stable are Luxuro, Stavka, Ocala, Sink or Swim and Stringalong. Albert Dunne brought over five horses owned by David W. Butler, motion picture director, from Louisville. They are Dash-wood, Polywhisk, Putzen, Play Back and Screen. BARON GRAY BADLY INJURED. Baron Gray, three-year-old gray colt by Sir Gallahad DX Tetra Lass, which the Darby Dan Farm purchased from Belair Stud at Hialeah Park, suffered a severe Injury in the right front leg while working this morning and may liave to be destroyed. Joe Marinelli, who enjoyed a good season at Hot SDrings, arrived from his Cincinnati home and will ride free lance. Trainers Mose Lowenstein, R. T. Runnels, Otto Bagley, Louis Meripol and Phil Reilly were notified today that stalls were awaiting their shipments.
