STEEPLECHASE CHAMPIONSHIP Arrange Series of Jumping Races for Foreign Importations. Pimlico, Belmont, Aqueduct and Saratoga to Be Scene of Elimination Contests and Finals. NEW YORK, N. T., April 17. The steeplechase subscription committee of H. E. Tal-bott, A. C. Bostwick and F. S. Von Stade, are arranging a series of races to be decided this summer for the horse3 which were purchased in France and England last fall and imported to this country to stimulate interest in steeplechase racing. The horses, thirty-six of them, were distributed to as many subscribers who paid ,500 each, at Belmont Park in January. The horses were drawn by lot. The series of races, five in .number, are to be run at Pimlico, Belmont Park, Aqueduct and Saratoga Springs. They are limited to subscription horses only and the winner of any of them will not be eligible for entry in the succeeding races until the two championship events will be run at Belmont Park and Aqueduct in the fall. The subscription committee will offer 0,000 for the first five races, which will endow each race with an added value of ,000 each. This money is what is left after deducting expenses and the cost of the horses from the original subscription of 0,000. To each of the races the associations chosen will add ,000 each, bringing the value of the purse to ,000. There will be no entrance or starting fees for the races and to be eligible a horse must be the property of the original subscriber. In addition to the purse value the owner of the winner will receive a suitable trophy donated by the committee. FIRST AT PIMLICO. The first race at Pimlico on May 5 is a weight-for-age steeplechase at two miles. Of the ,000 added purse, the winner will receive ,500, with 50 to the second, 50 to the third and 00 to the fourth. The second race will be contested at Belmont Park, Friday, May 14, with the same purse distribution and at the same distance. Aqueduct will serve as host for the subscribers on June 7, opening day, with a similar purse. However, the conditions of this will be for hurdlers and at one and a half miles. George H. Bull of the Saratoga Association will offer two races on Saturday, August 7, and Thursday, August 19. These two will be under steeplechase conditions. With the return of racing to Long Island following the close at Saratoga Springs, two championship events will be run, one at Aqueduct and the other at Belmont Park. Each association will add ,500 while the subscription committee will contribute ,000, making a gross value of ,500. These races will be under handicap conditions. The Queens County Jockey Club race will be over hurdles while Belmont Park will offer a steeplechase. The hurdle event will be at two miles and the steeplechase a half mile longer.
