NO SIR ATTRACTS ATTENTION Hirsch Derby Candidate Works One Mile in 1:40 at Downs, Sortie Geldings Trial Gallop Stands Out Over Others Bernard F. Breezes Over One Mile. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 17. With most of the other Kentucky Derby horses here indulging in lighter work. Miss Mary Hirschs No Sir, nominee for the 0,000 race to be run three weeks from today, monopolized the attention of work watchers at Churchill Downs this morning. The three-year-old son of Sortie turned in his most impressive trial since his arrival from Florida by working a mile fn 1:40. In view of the fact that the track was not at Us best, the performance was a standout, and one which may gain him additional supporters for the Churchill Downs special. No Sir, which Miss Hirsch has. shown no disposition to rush in his training since he already has had the advantage of winter racing, started his work in company with the filly Light Moment, but after about three furlongs the Derby eligible left his less fashionable stable companion. SHOWS SUPERIORITY. Breaking together from the four and a half furlong post, No Sir and Light Moment went the first quarter in 24 seconds and then the former began to show his undoubted superiority. The Sortie colt reached the half mile marker in :49, and was timed for the three-quarters in 1:14. Light Moment continued on after being left in the ruck for three-quarters, for which she was timed in 1:18. The performance of No Sir not only stood out in bold relief over other workouts during the morning, but was one of the best yet turned in by a Derby eligible, either here at the Downs or at Douglas Park this spring. Miss Hirsch was. much pleased with the work of her star, which thus far has done everything asked .of hinj. In preparation fot his first strenuous trial since he got in from Florida, I. J. Collins Bernard F. breezed a slow half mile this morning under the direction of trainer Al Miller. After galloping pnee around with a pony, the son of Sun God II. went four furlongs in 57 seconds, hard held. Miller indicated he might set down the Collins Derby eligible tomorrow over a similar distance. The remaining Derby horses at the Downs were either only walked around their sheds or given slow gallops. EASTERN STARS COJIING. Track superintendent Tom Young, who has charge of the. allocation of stalls, was advised this morning that the Glen Riddle Farms War Admiral and Townsend Bt Martins Court Scandal, among the outstanding candidates for the Derby, would be shipped to Churchill Downs immediately after the running of the Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace next Saturday. War Admiral will be accompanied by two stable companions, while Court Scandal, coming in the same car, will be accompanied by Her Reigh, which is to serve as a work-mate for the Derby eligible. Reaping Reward, one of the choices for the 0,000 race, and the four other Derby nominees in the Milky Way Farm Stable, Case Ace, Military, Murph and Jawbreaker, were to leave Arlington Downs tonight for this point, according to word received by Young. Although the time of their shipment has not been disclosed. Young already has set aside stalls for J. H. Louchheims Pompoon and E. R. Bradleys Brooklyn and Billionaire, and they are ready for immediate occupancy; Young has reserved stalls for four horses for the Bradley stable, for besides the two Derby eligibles he also expects Bow To Me, an elegible for the Clark Handicap, opening day feature here.
