POMPOON WORKS ONE MILE VERY EASILY IN THE MUD 4 JAMAICA, N. Y., April 22. Pompoon, the Jerome H. Louchheim Derby hope, continues to do all that is required of him by trainer Clarke in a satisfactory manner. Yesterday morning at Belmont Park the son of Pom-pey was permitted to breeze a mile in 1:45. It was through the muddy going and the colt handled himself in a manner to indicate that muddy footing is no serious handicap. He is training for the Wood Memorial in a maanner that is entirely satisfactory and at this time there does not seem to be an eligible for the 0,000 prize on the Metropolitan Jockey Club grounds to give Clarke any serious concern. Flying Scot, a John Hay Whitney eligible for the Wood, was out in a handy six furlongs test of 1:21. The son of The Porter-Caledonia is also eligible for the Stuyvesant Handicap, the six furlongs week-end feature at Jamaica. He is handicapped at 119 pounds, but there is a doubt if he is entirely up to that running. Sir Damion, withdrawn Wednesday, had a useful trial of a mile and a furlong in 1:58 that was handily accomplished. The son of Sir Gallahad HI., that races for Marshall Field, with his stablemate. Charing Cross, had his early training at Columbia, as did Pompoon, and he is well advanced.
