CORONATION CUP HANDICAP Woodbine Park Schedules ,000 Feature in Commemoration of Coming London Ceremonial. TORONTO, Ont, April 22. As was announced last fall, the directors of the Ontario Jockey Club will stage a special feature race during the forthcoming spring meeting at Woodbine Park, which gets under way on Saturday, May 22 and continues until Saturday, May 29, that will commemorate the coronation of His Majesty, King George VI. The race will be known as King George VI. Coronation Cup Handicap, for a purse of ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward, at one mile and one-sixteenth. There will also be a handsome antique silver cup presented outright to the owner of the winning horse. This cup has a very interesting background, having been donated to the Ontario Jockey Club back in 1911 by Leopold De Rothschild. It is a genuine George III. piece, manufactured in 1777, and it is an example of excellent craftmanship and could not be duplicated. Another big feature of this event is the fact that the directors of the Ontario Jockey Club received permission direct from His Majesty to include a race at their spring meeting in commemoration of the coronation. The King George VI. Coronation Cup Handicap will be run on the closing day of the spring meeting, Saturday, May 29. Entry blanks are being distributed for this Canadian turf classic, and the nomination fee is 0 each, payable at the time of entry, starters to pay 00 additional to the winner, with ,000 added, of which ,000 goes to the second horse, 00 to the third, and 00 to the fourth. Entries close Thursday, May 6. Weights are to be announced Monday, May 17, at 12 oclock. Penalties accrue from that time, and winners of ,000 after publication of weights to carry three pounds extra. Acceptances are to be named through the entry box the day before the race at the usual time of closing.
