J J j j I 0DDESA BEULAH WINS AGAIN Filly Equals Track Mark in Fifth Straight Triumph. Buns Four Furlongs in :47 to Defeat Heel In by One Length Red Hay Wins Opener for Third Straight Score. HOT SPRINGS, Ark., April 1. The undefeated record of Oddesa Beulah was kept intact as the fleet chestnut filly annexed her fifth straight decision and equalled the track record for the half mile distance at Oaklawn Park, traversing the four furlongs in :47, flat. It was the third start of the season for Oddesa Beulah and she took the measure of Heel In, one of the representatives of the Milky Way Farm, by the margin of a length. Maetown finished in third place, after a slow beginning. Under the alert handling of jockey Calvert, Oddesa Beulah moved into the lead soon after the youngsters were sent on their way and never relinquished the forward position. Heel In made a determined bid after heading into the stretch, but was unequal to the task of overtaking the speedy daughter of Wise Counsellor. The triumph of Oddesa Beulah was extremely popular with the large turnout, as the filly was made an bdds-on choice in the betting, and she never gave her backers the slightest worry at any stage of the dash. THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY. Red Hay, a bay son of Judge Hay Bright Red, won his third straight race of the meeting in the opening dash, over the Oaklawn course, which brought together a field of eleven starters. Fern Star finished second and Johnnie Dear was a fast-finishing third. Although Red Hay broke rapidly he dropped back soon after the start and had to work I i his way up on the outside getting to the front in the final furlong and drawing away to win with something in reserve. t I Coming from behind in the stretch with i ! a good burst of speed, Emily Jane captured I the second event with something to spare, drawing away to register by a comfortable margin of four lengths over Tempting Witch, which set the early pace. Alergy, always a factor, held on to gain the third portion of the purse. Emily Jane, a bit tardy . i in getting away from the starting gate, worked her way up on the outside, over- hauled the pacemaker when straightened out in the stretch. Fast Move, a recent winner over the Oaklawn Course distance, came right back to make it two in a row in the fourth contest, which brought together a field of ten platers, Fast Move held a margin of three lengths over Merry Caroline at the conclusion of the trip, while Delta Dan took down third. Jockey R. L. Vedder sent the gelding into the lead soon after the start and did not have much trouble keeping the seven-year-old bay in advance for the entire trip.
