SIR WAG was well up from the start and ran his race, but was not good enough. VICTOR closed ground steadily when urged and was going gamely at the end. BERENDA raced fairly well. MARGIEBELL, close up from the start, caught EMPRESS HILLS when the latter began to tire and, going strongly to the finish, had enough left to hold JOLITO safe. The latter got through an opening on the inside in the stretch to finish fast and was pressing the winner. HOWDOINO, probably best, was in close quarters early and lacked speed, but closed much ground. EMPRESS HILLS opened up a good lead in the early running, but quit badly in the stretch. VERACIDAD outbroke her rider and could never reach the leaders. TENTMATE had a rather rough trip. Overweight Empress Hills, 1 pound; Veracidid, 3; Telepathy, 1. FIFTH RACE 3-4 MILE Out of Chute. PATRIOTIC, displaying fine early speed, soon raced to the front and, hustled along, went gamely to the end to hold CLOUD DOR safe. The latter broke well and, aside from showing an inclination to bear in slightly, had no excuses. BLACK HIGHBROW was caught in close quarters rounding the far turn and was forced to take up, then came again and might have been best. ILLEANNA lacked early speed, but finished very fast. ROCK X. was never dangerous and could not keep up. LITHOROME was never a serious contender. LT. MISS BAM moved up gamely after going half the distance, but tired near the end. CINAR was never a contender. LEONIE could not raise a respectable gallop and seems far from her best form. McCARTHY was outrun early, but came fast in the middle of the track through the stretch and would have won in a few more strides. DUNLIN LADY showed a good turn of speed and, saving ground in the stretch, raced gamely to the finish. MARVEL PLAY made up some ground, but was never dangerous. COLD-WATER tired in the stretch.
