" TROPICAL PARK TURF NOTES $ Joseph M. Smoot, well known promoter, was present for the racing at Tropical Park Saturday. Mr. Smoot was builder of Hia-leah Park before it was transformed and purchased by Joseph E. Widener, and is interested in the new Hollywood track, which is being considered as part of the racing wheel in Florida. Thirty-five claims have been filed with the clerk of the course since the opening of the spring meeting at Tropical Park. Officiate brought the highest price when he was obtained by the Fanfare Farms for ,500. Jockey Robert Merritt finished his riding engagements with the racing at Tropical Park Saturday and departed for Maryland to be with his wife and children for a few days before reporting for duty at Jamaica. Starter George R. Wingfield has been engaged to perform the duties of starter at River Downs, Detroit, Thistle Down, Hawthorne and Narragansett Park this season. It will be a busy year for the popular Cin-cinnatian. Trainer J. Boniface, who handles the horses of Mrs. R. H. Heighe, and George Strate, who handles several horses of a public stable will transfer their stock to Havre de Grace Sunday. A car containing fourteen horses will pull out of the loading chute at Hialeah Park Sunday with the horses trained by Tommy Root, L. V. Bellew and V. Griner for Lexington.
