! : MRS. PELLETER1 DOUBLE Flying Wild and Prowl Carry Her Colors to Victory at Bowie. First Mentioned Triumphs in Anne Arundel Purse, Feature of Mondays Card. I BOWIE, Md., April 4. The green and gold . of Mrs. Anthony Pelleteri flew high at Prince . Georges Park this afternoon, thanks to the , superior speed of a pair of her three-year-; olds, Flying Wild and Prowl. The first of . these drove to victory in the five and a half furlongs Anne Arundel Purse, the days prin-J cipal event, with the other trouncing a field of Maryland-bred platers. While both were ; backed into odds-on favoritism in the ma-! chines, neither won by impressive margins, as they had to be driven to the utmost to turn back their rivals. The score of Flying Wild was due in no small measure to a 1 strong finish by Corbett, that veteran putting forth a particularly strong ride to "hang it ; on" the less experienced Napier in the main 1 race. This enabled the daughter of Flying Heels and Laila Wild to gain a neck decision over Ghost Queen, with Jacqueline M. six lengths back in a dash which was limited to three-year-old fillies. In view of her New Orleans record, the Pelleteri representative was a square price when she paid 19 to 20, being the third odds-on choice of the day to triumph. The score also gave Corbett a double, one he had started with Bartering Kate. IN DEEP FOOTING, Flying Wild broke well, but was held in the deep going on the inside in the run along the far side of the track. Corbett had to make his run along the inner barrier going to the far turn to gain a short lead while making the bend. . Unable to widen out on the others, he was caught by Ghost Queen at the top of the stretch, the latter taking a short lead in the middle of the front lane and then hanging right on the money. Corbett simply refused to give up after Ghost Queen had driven her head to the front and from the sixteenth post to the stand he clearly outrode Napier. The runner-up moved into contention fast turning for home, but tired slightly in the last sixteenth and probably needed the race. Jacqueline M., an early trailer, pickedup tiring horses to be third. Mighty Sweet showed early speed and appeared shy on Continued on twenty-third vage. MRS. PELLETERI DOUBLE Continued from first page. J conditioning, while Way Out performed like a short horse, quitting all over in the last three-sixteenths. MORUN SCORES. Morun, unsuccessful in her recent Hot Springs campaign, found a field she could beat in the mile and a sixteenth of the sixth, fashioned for non-winners since December 29. At the end the Morvich mare was four lengths in front of the pacemak-ing Justa Gal, with Queen Elizabeth another length away as she took third money by a wide margin. The winner was the fifth choice of the afternoon to score, paying .75 to . Root did not hurry Morun in the early stages and she dropped far off the pace in the first half mile. Leaving the back stretch she picked up the leaders quickly to forge to the front curving for home and draw away thereafter. Justa Gal had plenty of foot and probably needed the race. My Porter; a first-time starter from the stable of Francis J. Buchanan, proved superior to the juveniles in the fourth race, a half-mile, dash fashioned for non-winners. At the end the son of The Porter and Burgo was two lengths in advance of High Blame, with the latter just clear of Baliris. Though it was the first public appearance for the Buchanan colorbearer, he did not lack for supporters, showing .05 to . Manny Berg, a Baltimore boy, was astride My Porter, and he had only to keep the colt going through the stretch to dispose of the tiring leaders. His charge was green in the early running, dropping out of contention in the first quarter, but finished in game style when taken to the outside turning for home. Apprehend scored the fourth victory of the meeting for A. C. Compton as he breezed to victory in the initial six furlongs race for cheap platers. Confidently handled for the usual Shelhamer, the six-year-old son of Apprehension and Bantry Pass aired past the judges four lengths in advance of the steadily closing Felwyn with Inactive another length away. The chestnut gelding was best backed of the eleven contestants and shortest priced favorite of the afternoon at 13 to 20. Prowlj conditioned by his opening day effort, managed to lead a weak field of Maryland foaled three-year-olds over the five and a half furlongs distance of the second race. At the end the gelded son of Bud Lerner and Pussyfoot III. was a neck in advance of the steadily closing Acute, with Trolight a length and a half away. E. Smith had Prowl away well and in a forward position for the first half-mile while obtaining clear passage on the outside. He drove the gelding to the front at the head of the stretch but had to continue hard pressure through that lane to dispose of Trolight and then withstand Acute. A perfect ride from jockey Corbett enabled Bartering Kate to gain a half length decision over My Elsie in the third race, a six furlongs dash, fashioned fo middle-class platers. The seven-year-old daughter of Boot to Boot and Black Eyed Kathleen had been tightened in a race over the track, whereas the runner-up was making her first appearance since late in February at Hialeah Park. The two were decidedly best of the ten starters, as Combahpe was four lengths away as he earned third money. Tony Pedrone, agent for jockey C. Kurt-singer, arrived from Florida. Jockeys R. Everson, D. Morgan and H. Ro-maine, accepted their first mounts over this track Monday afternoon.
