OMAHA ATTRACTS HORSEMEN Number of Applications on Hand Indicates Plenty of Horses. O. W. Bagley Reserves Stalls for Sixteen Blue Ridge Farm Horses 150 Horses on Grounds. OMAHA, Neb., April 4. Therell be no scarcity of horses for Ak-Sar-Bens 1938 running race meeting scheduled May 28 to July 4. Thats the prediction of W. H. Schellberg, chairman of the racing committee, after a perusal of the early application list. "From all indications, we should have between 600 and 700 horses on the grounds by opening day," Schellberg said. "Our entry list is far ahead of the 1937 entry at this same period," he continued. Schellberg said that the applications from owners who never had raced at Ak-Sar-Ben before indicates that the newcomers are being lured to the track by the increased purse money. Under the new setup, a minimum purse limit of 00 has been set for open races, with allowance and stake races carrying purses from 00 to ,000. One of the newcomers to send in his application is O. W. Bagley of the Blue Ridge Farm. He has entered sixteen, including Elooto, Sympathizer, Unselfish and Wise Barrister, all useful over a distance of ground at allowance conditions. Lillian Roth and Roguish Polly are other high class runners of this stable. J. W. Critchfield Is bringing four useful runners in Overshoes, Cheka, Tiny Comet and Wayward Boy. Glenn Gorbett will ship eight to Omaha, including Bahadur, Hil-singer, Johnnie Dear, Ebony Boy, Vishnu, Leana G., Beaver and Gale Way. With more than 150 horses now on the grounds, track superintendent Jimmie Ronin has the track in excellent condition for the morning workouts. He reports the track has been benefited by spring rains and should be in tip-top shape by opening day.
