RIVAL STARS Will NOT MEET Sickness of Stable Attaches Keep Seabiscuit at Pimlico. Jockey Woolf and Trainer Tom Smith 111 Seablscuits Recent Work AIsj Unsatisfactory. PAWTUCKET, R. I., Nov. 9. Charles S. Howard, in a telephone conversation this morning with judge James E. Dooley, president of the Narragansett Racing Association, and racing secretary Bob Shelley, announced that he had decided not to start Seabiscuit in the Rhode Island Handicap on Saturday. Mr. Howard said his decision was influenced by a combination of adverse circumstances; first, jockey George Woolf was suffering from an attack of influenza, trainer Tom Smith was indisposed as the result of a slight accident, Seabiscuits last work had not been satisfactory, and lastly, the present weather might produce a muddy track. Under these circumstances, Mr. Howard thought it better to definitely decline the issue at this time rather than at the last moment. Judge Dooley said that while the association was sorry New Englanders would not have the opportunity to see the two great rivals in competition, the loss was offset by the positive assurance that War Admiral will start in the Rhode Island, no matter what the condition of weather or track. With Seabiscuit declining the issue, the race will remain a 0,000 added event, instead of the 5,000 added stake proposed by the association. WAR ADMIRAL WORKS. War Admiral worked a mile and a furlong this morning in 1:56 under the watchful eye of trainer George Conway. Despite the sloppy condition of the strip, the Admiral gave every evidence that he really enjoyed the going and at the conclusion of the work, Conway declared that his charge would positively start Saturday. Four candidates for Saturdays Rhode Island Handicap were given brisk workouts this morning over a sloppy strip. Charley Kurtsinger piloted War Admiral a mile and a furlong in 1:56. The Admirals fractions were: half in :51, six furlongs in 1:16, one mile in 1:42. D. A. Woods Busy K. worked a mile and a furlong in 1:57, with fractions of :52, 1:18, 1:45. Mrs. E. G. Lewis Great Union worked three-quarters in 1:18. H. Phillips Fair Stein turned in a mile and a furlong in 2:01, with fractions of :53, 1:20 and 1:47.
