8 DERBY CLOSING DECEMBER 1 Star Array of Juveniles Will Be Nominated for Santa Anita Fixture 0,000 Added Race. ARCADIA, Calif., Nov. 23. The national prominence of the stake-winning two-year-olds now quartered at Santa Anita, along with a flock of other topnotch juveniles, is attracting wide attention to the 0,000 added Santa Anita Derby, nominations for which close on Thursday of next week the same as the Santa Anita Handicap. A check reveals the following with stakes won: Porters Mite Belmont Futurity, Champagne Stakes, Tanforan Juvenile and Twin Peaks Handicap. Time Alone Eastern Shore Handicap and Pawtucket Handicap. Touch and Go Consolation Claiming Stakes. Sweet Patrice Bouquet Claiming, Fashion Stakes and Viscaye Purse. Bang Bay Meadows Futurity. Valley Lass Wilshire Plate Handicap. Among others who have made reservations and are expected to be named shortly are Xalapa Clown, whose victory in the Ardsley Handicap was his third straight; Smoky Snyder, winner of the California Home-Bred Stakes; Grey Nurse, winner of the Golden Poppy Handicap; Smart Crack, victor in the Jeanne dArc Stakes, and SpoWNews, winner of the Kentucky Claiming Stakes. HAVE DERBY HOPES. Practically every barn at Santa Anita has a Derby prospect, some of them, like Roman Hero, Sidney Carton, Shining One, Chief Gamble, Joy Boy, Ed, Dust to Dust, In Range, Shasta Fitz, Time-u-Me, Bar Thirteen, Mammoth, Barker and others, having records and time trials that make them particularly impressive. The 0,000 added California Breeders Championship on opening day, December 31, has forty-nine eligibles, and a number of them will be put into the Santa Anita Derby, .at one mile and an eighth. Last year the Derby nominations reached a record of 111, out of which came Stagehand to run to victory, fame and fortune. Most of the leading stables are including a number of coming three-year-olds in the strings they will bring to Santa Anita. A. G. Vanderbilt has no less than fourteen listed. Aside from Spot News, he has the ranking Impound and Adventurer, the latter a full brother of the famous Discovery.
