j . FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES S 0 Otis Clelland, trainer of the Mrs. R. J. Murphy stable, reported that Little Nymph kicked herself while being clipped several days ago and inflicted a deep gash on her right hind leg. The mare was on the track for the first time Wednesday morning since the accident, when she breezed five-eighths of a mile. Cyrus Field Clarke, veteran eastern turfman, who developed Pompoon into the championship of the two-year-old division in 1936, arrived in New Orleans for a protracted visit, but is without horses for the present. George Martin, youngerbrother of jockey T. P. Martin, who has been exercising horses for the past three years, is scheduled to make his first appearance in colors on opening day at the Fair Grounds. According to the announcement of Frankie Seremba, the heavy riding for his stable will be done by jockey Paul Ryan. Two other : riders, both apprentices, are attached to the outfit that is being conditioned by W. R. Sallee. Lighter than he has been in several years, Paul Keester arrived from his home in Dayton, Ky., and plans to ride free lance throughout the Louisiana Jockey Clubs meeting. A carload of thoroughbreds, destined for Oriental Park, Havana, Cuba, passed through New Orleans Wednesday morning, en route from Shreveport. Because of the dense fog that enveloped here Wednesday morning, training activities were delayed and schooling was confined to standing only by starter Johnny Morrissey. E. J. OConnell, former owner and trainer, checked in at the Fair Grounds, and is handling the agency of the Hartford Livestock Insurance here. Apprentice Billy Seaman, under contract to J. L. Winscher, who began his riding career at Beulah Park during the summer, is here with the stable and will do the bulk of its riding. .
