SEABISCUIT WILL BE NAMED Entry of Howard Star Expected for San Francisco Handicap. Probably Top Weight of 130 Pounds Would Let Ligaroti in With About 115 Pounds. SAN BRUNO, Calif., Nov. 23. Mighty Sea-biscuit will be named for the San Francisco Handicap, closing day feature at Tanforan. Owner Charles S. Howard, now in the East, has made a request for nomination blanks for the race and they have been mailed him. While such a move on Mr. Howards part does not necessarily mean that Seabiscuit will be a starter in the 0,000 event, it would seem to indicate that the Peninsula sportsman is seriously considering shipping the main division of his string to the coast. The horses are at present at. Bowie. Seabiscuit will probably be weighted in the San Francisco Handicap at 130 pounds1 and racing secretary John Maluvius may be on the spot. With that poundage on the Howard hurricane, it would seem that 115 pounds would be the proper package on Ligaroti and then what to do about the little fellows? Sea-biscuit with 130 and Ligaroti with 115, would be a fairly good match but for Seabiscuit failed to start, Ligaroti would still have 115 whereas if Seabiscuit was not nominated, the former would likely be the topweight with about 124 or more. MINIMUM WEIGHT 100. The minimum weight in handicaps on the Pacific Coast is 100 pounds. With Ligaroti carrying 115 pounds, few horses on the track would have much chance with him over the mile and sixteenth distance. Main Man and a couple of others would have a look-in but the remainder, even at the minimum poundage, would appear to be overmatched. However, that is a problem for the racing secretary to solve. The public would like to see Seabiscuit in action, regardless of the competition. The Howard Stable will give the American public its first glimpse of one of its South American importations Thanksgiving Day when Olimpo will go to the post for the first time. Olimpo is considered by many dockers to be the equal of Comet H., winner of three straight races in this country. He is a five-year-old, by Fogon, the sire of Ligaroti. Fogon is a son of Craganour, and English Epsom Derby winner. Opposed to Olimpo at the six furlongs distance will be Golden Era, First Kiss, Townsman, Better Bet, and Our Carolyn e. When the original Thanksgiving Day Handicap for a ,500 purse failed to fill, conditions were drawn up for a substitute and Maluvius has managed to get together a good field for the Turkey Day headliner. Xenomay, recent winner, will match strides with a newcomer Pageboy, as well as Masker, Count Atlas, Gallaclay and Routine. The distance is one and one-sixteenth miles. CARL BIERMANS MOUNT. On Routine in the Thanksgiving Day Handicap will be jockey Carl Bierman, who recently arrived from the East. Bierman has been signed as first string pilot for the powerful Louis B. Mayer stable. The deal was closed Tuesday night. Bierman was one of the top jockeys of the New England circuit during the past summer. He is twenty years of age and made his saddle debut in the west, but earned his reputation oh eastern tracks. He rode 160 winners last year, finishing in eighth place on the American jockey list. He has ridden about 130 winners this year. His contract calls for one years services to the Mayer stable. Johnny Longden, Americas leading rider swung into action at Tanforan Tuesday when he was aboard five horses. He was hoping to make a successful western reappearance as did Silvio Coucci Tuesday. Coucci rode Patriotic to victory first crack out of the box. Adams, Longden, Coucci, Bierman, Adair, Richardson, Woolf, M. L. Fallon and the others give Tanforan the greatest array of riding talent ever assembled in the West in recent years.
