SEABISCUIT TO CALIFORNIA Howards Champion to Be Shipped to Santa Anita Park. To Pass Tip Florida Campaign and Elart in 00,000 Race Deny Horse Has Gone Lame. COLUMBIA, S. C, Dec. 27. Seabiscuit, champion thoroughbred of 1938, will pass up two shots at 0,000 races in Florida, including another possible match race with War Admiral, to run in the 00,000 Santa Anita Handicap nextMarch 4 in California. Despite the fact that Seabiscuit, rapidly nearing an all-time racing record, will be asked to carry cn impost of 134 pounds at Santa Anita, trainer Tom Smith said today he had , received instructions to ship the horse to the Pacific Coast. Smith emphatically denied that Seabiscuit was lame, but he added the horse had received "what looked like a small rap" on a fore quarter ligament. He talked on the telephone with owner Charles S. Howard last night in San Francisco and indicated the reason for the decision was to have Sea-biscuit at home in case trouble developed with the ligament. The decision shattered hopes of Miami promoters that Howards horse and War Admiral would meet again in the 0,000 added Widener Challenge Cup on March 4, or in a tentative match race or special invitational along with four other leading horses of the year Lawrin, Stagehand, Dauber and Pasteurized. Seabiscuit has won 40,480 and needs only 6,264 more to equal Sun Beaus record of 76,744. Smith, who denied that Seabiscuits training had been handicapped by the minor ailment, said he was not worried about the 134-pound impost. In the 1937 Santa Anita race Seabiscuit, carrying 114 pounds, finished second to Rose-mont, carrying 124. This year Stagehand, carrying only 100 pounds, came home ahead of the Howard racer, which carried top wieght of 130. Seabiscuit left at 9 oclock tonight and will arrive in California Saturday morning.
