MERRITT SUFFERS ATTACK SAN BRUNO, Calif., April 14. Just before leaving for the paddock Friday to ride Kent, one of the favorites for the opening race, jockey Ned Merritt suffered an acute attack of appendicitis and was rushed to the hospital to und rgo an emergency operation. Merritt is under contract to E. H. Beczley.
